Looking back a couple of years ago when Mawson was made captain, his form dipped and after being dropped and the captaincy given to Hourihane he looked a totally different player. Both MacDonald and Davies who were superb last season have took on this extra pressure and i think its telling now. I'd be looking to give it to Yiadom until the end of the season (if he commits to staying) or Hammill and let Davies/MacDonald regain some confidence etc...
I don't think changing captain would have had any bearing on Saturdays game. Just too many errors at either end for me. Gifted them a goal end a penalty and missed free header and scruffy scuffed shooting when well placed. It's up to them all to improve individually.
MacDonald is not captaincy material. Hammill has great passion, but frequently loses his cool. We’re lacking a leader on the pitch.
There’s only one outfield player in the team who’s our player who’s virtually guaranteed a start & that’s Lindsay, not sure a lad his age should have the captaincy yet
I think Williams would be the first name on my team sheet. He looks like a young Neil Redfearn to me.
Part of me says hecky and his staff know each player better than all of us, so who are we to suggest we know better who should be captain. Buuuuut another part of me also sees that Potts is one of Heckys first choice players week in week out when he is just as inconsistent as everyone else.
We need to sign a captain in January because as everyone has said we haven't one reliable enough in the team.
I can't think of another obvious candidate other than Gus but I do agree his form has dropped off since last season but I think losing Roberts has affected him more than becoming captain.
Why not. What age was Butterfield? Torres captained Madrid at 19. Totti 21 at roma. Neymar 22 Brazil. to name a few. Graeme Smith Captained SA at 22. That's bonkers with what they go through with the political side of the game. ,
Let’s compare Barnsley players with the most expensive footballer ever, a £50 million striker and someone who played for the club for what 25 years. Oh well.
He didn't at 21 though. It's just a list of Footballers then sports people that have done it. People on here are obsessed with ''experience'' rather than ability. I see it in almost every thread this weekend.
Gone inside a year, could be recalled in January. Easy for others to think ‘why should I listen to you? Not one of us / gone in no time etc’ Captains should be more long term for me, leaders in the dressing room, setting examples, community work etc. I don’t see how you can be that when you’re a loanee
‘Not sure’. All depends on his maturity. I think I’ve only heard him interviewed once, I don’t know much about him, is he a leader? Looked up to in the dressing room? Some players his age are mature, some aren’t. I’ve no issue with young captains as long as it’s done for the right reason. Butterfield for example stunk of an attempt to try & get him to stay at the club / increase his value if he did get sold. Loved him as a player but he wasn’t a leader & it was obvious that Foster in the same team was what I’d call the real captain, dishing orders out, organising etc
