In addition to Rimmo, I reckon Barry Murphy (backrow left), David Boothe (backrow 6th from left), George Hamstead (backrow with someone on his back), Pat Howard (backrow right), George Boardman (front row left), Brian Arblaster (red top), Eddie Loydon (frontrow second from right) and Johnny Evans (frontrow right). Am I right? And can anyone help me with the other names? Surprised that Eric Winstanley doesn't seem to be on this btw.

You are probably right although Pat Howard could be Les Lee with Frank Sharp on his left. but only a kid then. Met Bob Earnshaw in a Rotherham school circa 2000 but not sure what he looked like then.

John Bettany second left , Jimmy Robson fourth left , Norman Dean fifth left ?
    Arblaster looks like Spock .
    Third left young Graham ?

Peter Graham. Think he was a local lad. Striker.

Second right, back row could be Brian Raggett, another local lad. Central defender.

Bob Earnshaw’s the one Brian Arblaster’s leaning on.

Not sure about the one on George Hamstead’s back. Where’s Big Lil when you need him?

Thanks loyal tyke - I think Bob Earnshaw is the player Brian Arblaster is leaning on? I think it's a season too early for Les Lea and Frank Sharp though. I've done some research: https://www.11v11.com/teams/barnsley/tab/players/season/1971/ and if it was them I think Ali Millar, Phil Chambers and Kenny Brown would have been on it. I may be wrong but I'm guessing at 1969/70. I also think that the one second right on the backrow may be Brian Raggett. Can anyone confirm?

Sorry Lone Striker - just seen your response. You'll see on mine that I also think it's Brian Raggett. Just missing the one on Hammy's back. Anyone?

No - he’s the one on Hammy’s right (left as we look)

Not drawn by me! It's done by Neil Richardson, a fan and artist. See his FB page here: https://www.facebook.com/statedart/ if you want a copy. I promised I'd give him a credit if anyone asked......

Could the missing man be one of Allen Bradbury or Brian Sherratt? They seem to be the only two on the squad list for 1969/70 we haven't identified, if it is indeed that year.

It is an excellent illustration Norman Rimmington and Barry Murphy are unmistakable legends of the club. Did Stuart Barraclough play around 72 and Micky Butler in 73? remember a classic 3-2 win against Bury in 73. Thanks Wolvestyke and everyone the days when you could walk around the ground and go behind which ever goal Barnsley were attacking.

Just checked and I'm amazed that Stewart Barrowclough played for us in his first spell in 69-70 and only made 9 appearances before going to Newcastle. I thought it was more than that. Came back in 1981 and played a further 52 games. Only ever scored once for us. Great winger though.
And Mick Butler - loved watching him play, one of my boyhood heroes. Anyone remember the feature on him in one of the papers showing all the injuries he had? I was gutted when he went to Huddersfield.

Yes I remember that feature .
Two broken legs in a season .
    Hatricks in consecutive games .
I saw the one at home v. Rochdale 5-3 ?
The old Barnsley folk lore , if short shout down the pit for a player .
    Electrician Butler was there .
    Oh for him now .

Yes remember that feature on Micky Butler almost as many injuries as Barry Sheene. Think we got promoted in Stewarts first brief spell could be wrong. Remember beating Luton 3-1 classy winger very slight build then came back to finish his career in the best Barnsley team in my lifetime 96-97 team close call. . Think we lost at Port Vale 70-71 when getting relegated to Division 4. Part of our history remember the Sunday experiment and the early kick offs during the miners strike, John Manning a good centre half along with Eric Winstanley.

I used to have the Mick Butler article, was in the Daily Mirror. I have a load of old stuff in the back of my lock up. Must look for it at some point.
