Surely FFP would scupper big signings?

Good to live in a world of dreams but aren't we restricted by ffp? We may have the richest owners in the universe but if the FL say no then where does that leave us.

 

We arent going to be throwing millions at this, there’s a plan in place, it may be upgraded but it’s still a plan. Hefty dose of realism needed I think.

 

Your question is hypothetical cos I'm not convinced our new owners are looking at investing £50m to overhaul the squad. But FFP is fairly toothless to clubs at our level. Typical penalties include fines and limiting Champions League squad sizes. Enough to make any team in the lower reaches of the Championship think twice.

 

We will no doubt sign a few Nice players on free transfers.

I would imagine it’s somewhere in between the views of the masses on here. I don’t think we are going to go out and spend 15m on strikers and midfielders like Wolves had but it’s going to be a long way from a continuation of the same policy we have become accustomed to.

At the end of the day these owners are investing because they want to see the rewards of premier league football. That’s going to take some reasonably heavy investment. Remember, in terms of FFP we are significantly in the Black with player sales. We could theoretically go out and spend 20m in the transfer window and still be fine with FFP. Again I don’t think this will happen, but they have scope to do it they deem it necessary.

I’ll reiterate though that these people aren’t here to sit in the Championship. A Premier league push will take a significant investment. I think the model will continue but the net will be cast further than League 2.

 

I think its going to be more a case of a combination of being able to get decent/ good players in not paying mega bucks but finally being competitive on the wages front so not only can we get them in but we aren't a soft touch anymore when other clubs come knocking. Plus theres the loan thing.

FFP is a load of rubbish. The owners could use one of their companies to sponsor something, a stand, the shorts, Toby Tyke's forehead, etc, and put money in that way.

 

The new owners will have their own "Plan" which, my guess is, will be similar to the one we have in place but with a year-on-year increase in financial input meaning that we will see a gradual increase in the quality of signings. Baby steps rather that a headlong gallop to the Premiership.

 

Yeah, you are allowed £13 million losses averaged out over 3 seasons excluding Youth and stadium development - so we redirect maybe another £2 million there, plus we have surplus from sales so maybe in theory another £10-20 million, so over the next 3 seasons we could probably get away with spending £55 million - assuming we sell some more players for profit that obviously increases. Anything the club does to increase revenues - ticket sales, sponsorships (which are supposed to be assessed at a fair rate) can also be added to that.

 

FFP is beginning to bite. Look at our dear neighbours in S6, couldn't sell any of their vastly overpaid players during the summer and subsequently didn't buy anyone to improve their under achieving team, despite King Tuna having his name plastered on shirts and every square inch of the Rust Bowl.

I can't see loads of money being spent on transfers.

Would expect to see ground improvements, to at least get us up to a capacity of say 25k, with some better facilities, hopefully a supporters bar.
Improved scouting in long run & a bit of money to bring in some much needed experience on the pitch.
Overall they must like what they see, but see a potential for growth.

The only way to get an ROI is to spend a few bob, they haven’t bought us to sit in league one. I really think it’s going to be a gradual spend though, I’d be very very surprised if we spent a few million on big name players.

 

There are ways round ffp if they were to use there company to sponsor the naming of the ground they could put say 10 million into the club to be used as transfer collateral I think that could be used towards ffp

 

FFP is a complete joke, how can PSG afford £200m on a player, on top of everything else they've spent? Hypothetical anyway as I can't see ridiculous fees like Wolves etc have spent.

 

We’ve got a Chinese and Indian investor within the consortium.
By marketing to the countries mentioned we can possibly open a revenue stream but to comply it must be a reasonable amount.
We couldn’t get away with a £100 million shirt sponsorship for one season but we can identify the top earners in the league and match them I’m sure. For how much we’ve had previously it will still be a move forward.
Like it’s been mentioned though big signings not going to happen but at least we’ll pay competitively so if we drop lucky with some signings should be able to hold on to them or get a market value

 

I don't think we're going to be in any trouble of breaching FFP. Barring our connection with Nice, I can't see us altering too much in terms of how we approach transfers, maybe just a little more freedom in tying down players and retaining our better ones.
