I’ve seen a lot of reactionary views on 1) takeover presser, Conway’s “were not gonna go crazy” and 2) Hecky’s presser yesterday.. Hecky said that he’ll still be looking at the same pool of players, and people have taken that to mean that we’ll be signing the same type of players.. But what I take that to mean is that we’re still “looking” at the same players, and that those players will now be more attainable than before. For instance, it’s been pointed out that the spreadsheet identified Che Adams, but he was out of our price range. We still looked at him, but didn’t have the money to pull it off. Didn’t LJ say that he asks for a table and gets given 4 chairs? Well, maybe now we’ll be getting that table we’ve always wanted. RE Hecky’s presser... We’ve seen it a hundred times before, Hecky downplays everything. Before we sign any player, Buchan asks Hecky about him and he always says “yeah we know about him.” Yet, the player’s already in the building doing their medical. So don’t take Hecky’s dour tone as anything other than keeping his cards close to his chest.. Reading between the lines, it’s not the end of days. Expect decent signings.
For me Hecky saying that we've got the same wage budget hits the nail on the head and we'll be signing the same calibre of players. Wages talk not transfer fees.
I think you may be right... but it at least gets us in the door and able to talk to players.. if They’re the right players, wages aren’t everything.. hopefully
Unfortunately us being in the position we are in at the moment, wages will have a massive part to play if someone was to come in permanently.
What did people expect the new owners were going to say about transfers and budgets? Conway "YEAH were proper ******* loaded me and Chien and were going to spunk away 50 million quid in january" at which point any club we approach then takes their chances and bumps the asking price up by 50%.
