Doesn't feel like stagnation to me. FA cup semi final after beating Chelsea and Liverpool. 2 playoff final wins and a JPT trophy. Stagnant compared to what? Our 1 season in the prem or our 14 years in the championship neither going up nor down and playing in front of 7 and 8 thousand.
"7 days in, no signings?" Read what you've written again and please tell me that you now realise how silly that sounds. You are taking impatience to the extreme. The departures are clearly to make room for the arrivals. Some of the arrivals are probably done deals which haven't yet been announced. Even if they haven't yet signed on the dotted line, there's still plenty of time to get them on board before the next league game.
You're obviously too young to remember the real "dark times". Back in those days we could only dream of being where we are now. It's depressing at the moment but let's give the new people a chance, as you suggest.
Departures to make way for multiple new signings starting from tomorrow in my opinion.! We've apparently got Kieffer Moore and according to some sources the Austrian lad is also coming in. Would be chuffed if we could also sign Anthony Pilkington who no longer figures in Warnock's plans. There are rumours that we are also interested in Sullay Kaikai a 22 year old winger currently playing for Crystal Palace. He was loaned to Brentford last season and scored three in the eighteen appearances he made for them. Let's be patient please, things are set to improve down Oakwell way.
When I were a lad, folks main worries were about bills, job security, getting on the property ladder, health, running a car............. the 2 escapes were a nice local boozer and a weekend footie match at the team you support. These days, folks main worries are about bills, job security, getting on the property ladder, health, running a car, a weekend footie match at the team you support.
13 years of stagnation? Compared to what - 1 season in Top league plus 1 FA cup win has hardly been the stuff of dreams- 4 Wembley appearances, visit to Cardiff -3 trophies is hardly stagnation or am I missing something? Problem has been the way football has developed over those last 13 years- money has gone insane - we have been hanging on the coat tails of others. Compared to about 60-70 % of the football league we haven't done too badly. We are entering a new era and I just people would be more patient and let those that be sort things out
Different times I know - but under Big JD we progressed either on the field or off it. Only got to look at the ground and training facilities to realise this. Ok - we all know about the administration debacle - but for the last 13 years we have MOSTLY been stuck at the bottom of the Championship or in League 1. Many fans have drifted away in that time. I'd call that stagnation.
I don't think you can compare the Championship to when John Dennis was in charge. That was a time before rich owners were involved with football clubs like they are now, or at least they were much more rare. When we got promoted we shared this league with Grimsby, Oldham, Bradford, Oxford and Port Vale. Didn't we almost go bust at the end of the Dennis era?
Sorry Nudge but this is totally untrue. If any have drifted away then they've been replaced by younger ones. Just look at those gates from the 80s. Even during the prem promotion season the crowds didn't really start coming until they knew we were onto something. Our current gates are as healthy as they have been for years considering how poor we've been at home for the last 18 months.
Off topic I saw some interesting research on football fans. Pretty comprehensive study showed that the ‘die hard’ long term fan is a myth I will dig it out tomorrow.
Again, do you want to check out our average league placing through our history? Its about 44th I think. In other words bottom of tier 2 to top of tier 3. So how is the last 13 years any different to the previous 117?
