I didn't. Probably wouldn't judge a keeper on one performance anyway. However, reading the oxford forum he seems very highly rated. As i said "hopefully".
The 7 he let in against Wigan? Oxford have a very poor goLs against column. I have a couple of Oxford supporting mates. There view is that he is a decent keeper. Issues are a lack of command of his area and indecision on crosses. Good at distribution and shot stopping. They are surprised at a team further up the leagues showing concentrated interest. I hope he comes we desperately need someone better than Townsend to compete with Davies. For the money available to us I wouldn’t expect an upgrade.
Like you say Oxford fans rave about him and thats all we can really go on at the minute. The club will have done their homework on him and he’ll be coming in with the intention of being number one.
like is said oxford forum suggest he's an excellent all round keeper who could easily make the step up. Have you had a look? I'll go on that as opposed to a few matches. Can't understand why so many see Davies as irreplaceable. If a footballer plays poorly for half a season then he needs dropping.
I don’t see Davies as irreplaceable. If we had a capable deputy I would have dropped him ages ago. Pretty much our entire team had played badly for months. The last decent performance was probably Milwall away. Forums tend to be populated by people who don’t go to matches. My Oxford supporting mates go home and away so I’d tend to go with them. They certainly don’t dismiss Eastwood they say he has his qualities but other than his kicking say that his weaknesses are pretty much the same as Davies.
Shows that someone has no understanding of what makes a goalkeeper outstanding if they don’t know that Schmichel is the best keeper in the last 30 years. If he means Peter not Kasper According to that list we have not had a Championship standard keeper in the last 40 years.
He probably did mean Kasper actually. Just shows that all these years later I think of senior before junior!
Wayne Rooney is England's alltime top scorer because he played over 100 games. Is he the best striker to have ever pulled on the England shirt? Davies was decent last season but he was one of the weaker parts of the team. If we had kept that team and looked to improve, goalkeeper would have been one of the positions we would surely have been looking at. A top keeper is just as important as a 20 goal a season striker.
No but god help anyone who see's an area we can improve on this forum. After all we should all just be happy with mediocrity and get behind the players we have and never want to improve.
Areas to improve upon Left Back we seem to have done that. Forwards we have signed one.but need at least one more. Wingers. We need at least one maybe two Centre minds one box to box and one who knows how to pass Lower down the list A goalkeeper certainly to compete with or replace Davies. Over the last 10 league games scoring of goals has been the problem not keeping them out. Constant criticism of the same player is completely pointless and counterproductive. Fryers for example is I think a poor footballer. Fair enough for me to allude to that occasionally. To start thread after thread with the same repetitive ******** would not be either helpful or interesting.
So you don't agree the goalkeeper is an area that has cost us so far this season and something we can improve on?
Do I think that Davies is the best keeper in the league no. Do I think given our budget he is the best we are going to get. Probably. We can replace him but it’s likely that any replacement will have similar levels of ability. Our problem is we cannot carry 2 keepers of similar ability given our wage bill so when Davies has been out of form we only have the terminally incompetent Townsend to fall back on. If we can alter that and have two keepers of a similar level (in Reality that will be no better than Davies) then that will be progress we can use them both interchangeably as form dictates. If all we do is replace Davies and then he leaves then its pointless
You’re a main contributor in any thread on Davies yet don’t find it interesting??? You slam Fryers all the time and didn’t give him any credit vs Sunderland yet claimed Davies was excellent when he had nothing of note to do. Fryers was very much part of the clean sheet that day and also directly assisted the goal. You’re as biased as they come.
Ok I will engage with the troll from under the bridge for a bit. How many threads have I started directly criticising Zeki? I will go make a cuppa while you count them.
Agreed, Watson was a good shot stopper but his kicking was awful and he could get lobbed. That Martin wasn't too bad either. All 3 better then Davies.
If a player is having a nightmare then other players are brought in and the player is replaced. I don’t understand why the goalkeeping position is any different. I’ve read a lot of people claim that Davies is the best that we can afford. What’s this utter nonsense based on?
