No sorry do not agree at all. Yet again if mediocrity is all we can hope for what's the point? Now I'm not sure exactly what's out there in the lower leagues in terms of goalkeepers right now but I am 100% positive there will be better than Davies knocking about. And why shouldn't we expect to be able to pay a little more for a better keeper, it's called progress which would reflect on the progress of having 2 years back in the championship not to mention the seemingly missing 30 odd million we've had in over the last few years. But no let's stick with Davies cos we can never ever hope for better.

We are a mediocre team. Our midfield is awful. Our forwards poor. We have scored 7 goals in 14 games. It’s about prioritising. We need drastic surgery. If we can sign a better keeper all well and good. I suspect you will be sorely disappointed unless we either go abroad and hit lucky like with Mueller or spend significant amounts of money that would be better spent at the other end of the pitch

Haven’t started a single thread about him in the last day. Again it’s about 2 all season.

@Jimmy cricket I honestly can’t understand how you can say that money would be better spent elsewhere on the pitch when Davies has made so many catastrophic errors in the past 12 months that have directly contributed to us losing games and/or dropping points.

He needs actual competition and to be pushed to his limit by a viable alternative who can take over from him as the #1 if and when required.

We have such competition almost everywhere else in the squad, albeit to a greater or lesser extent in certain positions.

Right back - McCarthy, Cavaré, Yiadom, Pearson

Centre back - Pearson, MacDonald, Lindsay, Pinnock, McCarthy

Left back - Fryers, Yiadom, Pinnock, Pearson, McCarthy

    Wingers - Hedges, Hammill, Isgrove

Central midfield - Mallan, Potts, Moncur, Williams, Gardner

    Strikers - Bradshaw, Thiam, Moore.

Plus the youngsters such as Mottley-Henry, Brown, Williams, Wolfe, Palmer and whoever else is knocking on the door.

Did you miss the bit where we have scored 7 goals in 14 games. If we carry on at that rate how many games do you think we will win?(Particularly as our main creative force is now back in Leicester’s reserves) . Straight question.

League goals scored by your midfield 4
League goals scored by your wingers 3
League goals scored by any other forward than Bradshaw 1 a penalty.

Defence is sorted 4 clean sheets in 7 games backs that up and we have got some decent talent there.

I don’t disagree that we need better competition for Davies. I’m just not naive enough to think that anyone we sign will be significantly better.

This is a discussion about Davies. Nobody is claiming that we don’t need to strengthen elsewhere and it’s obvious that the club are attempting to do just that.

The mistakes he’s making aren’t those of a Championship goalkeeper unfortunately. If he hadn’t been so crucial for us in the promotion campaign I highly doubt that he would be afforded so much grace by our fans.

Why do you think we can improve the outfield but seemingly can’t sign a better goalkeeper?

    Great post.

Cricket currently routing through the stats book again.

Imagine having a free pick at a premier league keeper and coming out with Fabianski instead of Ederson.

    Those damn stats eh..

I think we can as long as we have a couple of million to spend on one. If we are trawling around the lower leagues then we will end up with someone of similar ability.

If you are a team that cannot score but is defensively relatively sound and you have finite resources it’s clear where you should be spending your money.

That's like saying when we had Stephen Dawson from the lower leagues that we couldn't have found anyone better even though we went on to sign Scowen and Hourihane from league 2.

There are undoubtedly very good goalkeepers who are currently plying their trade in League 1, League 2 or who are understudies at Premier League or Championship level due to the nature of the position itself.

If a good outfield player comes through at a Premier League or Championship club then he faces a battle on his hands to secure a professional contract before then having to battle for a place in the first team squad. In my opinion the task for any would be goalkeeper is even harder and as such promising goalkeepers often move from top clubs to League 1/League 2 in order to play first team football.

Without going full HT; Henderson at Shrewsbury is a classic example. He’s highly thought of at both United and within the England set up but it’s arguable that a chance at United won’t materialise, as it didn’t for Amos, Johnstone and countless others before him.

My point is that just because a goalkeeper is currently operating in League 1, League 2 or a supposedly inferior European league that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re an inferior/substandard option.

If you are serious about the 40 years what about Gary Pearce? I remember him being quite decent at both

Heinz Muller better than Baker but let's not forget Gary Pierce - he was pretty good too.
