Great footballer and journalist. A proper one club man - all his playing career at Blackpool. Had a shortish spell managing Bolton and Leeds, taking over at Elland Road when Brian Clough got the boot. Led them to some of their glory days. Bet they wish they still had him! RIP Jim. Not many like him in football these days - maybe none.
Never saw him play but it's another lovely unbiased voice from Sport on Two, Five Live Commentaries, and Sports Report that has passed. A voice that has bridged my football journey from childhood to the present day. One of the good and great men of football and broadcasting. RIP Jimmy.
One of the great voices of my childhood. Memories of tuning in nervously for updates on away matches in the pre-internet era.
Couldn't have phrased it better myself. It was only 12 months ago that we were taking pictures of his statue at Bloomfield Road before the FA Cup 3rd round game. R.I.P.
I always enjoyed listening to Jimmy and had great respect for what he said. One of the last voices of reason in an age of hyperbole and vacuous rubbish.
RIP Jimmy, one of the last real Gentleman of our sport......I did see him playing for Blackpool towards the end of his career.....smashing player....I used to love hearing him on the Radio as well, always spoke well and totally unbiased...
