Over reaction?

Some calling for hecky to go others blaming the plan yet again. But after what? Can't fault that 1st half performance for me moncur best I've seen him play moore gave us something diffeent in attack and was giving their defence bother only looked like one winner for me. Then the needless sending off just before half time Bradshaw goes off and it was like attack v defence all 2nd half. But harsh to blame hecky today.

 

You simply can’t legislate for incidents like Cavaré’s sending off. It would leave even the best laid plans in tatters, as we saw today.

I did feel for Bradshaw as it was obvious at half time that we would be the one to be withdrawn but I don’t think that PH had any real choice given that we couldn’t exactly come out for the second half without bringing Pinillos on. The only alternative substitution that I could see was to replace Hammill at half time with Pinillos and go 4-3-2 but that would’ve left us completely devoid of any width and would’ve given the likes of Ryan Sessegnon so much space to attack.

After that, the only questionable moment was replacing Moore with Thiam but Moore had ran his race and looked dead on his feet. I do get the school of thought that Moore could’ve provided an imposing target at the death and a threat from set pieces but I’m sure that PH was looking for Thiam to harrass the backline and provide an outlet over the top and in the channels.

 

Well said. Without the sending off we would have won it’s fine margins sometimes.

 

I'm the most cynical person in the world, who has been called out for being too pessimistic about or team on many occasions, but anyone putting today on Hecky is an idiot.

 

We are very quick to jump on a result and react with rather extreme emotions and posts. I'm the same, I tend to see more than I should in a winning performance and far too readily start planning League One away days after a defeat! If we stand back and take a reflective judgement, we're not in crisis are we? We knew at the start of the season that we'd got all on surviving. We recruited a team more befitting a League One promotion push than a Championship campaign, for various mostly unavoidable reasons and most sensible supporters accepted that survival would be a decent return. I'm not preaching from the Keith Hill School of Managing Expectations here, I'm just being sensible. So as much as I am pretty down beat, quite worried about our chances of surviving, not sure the usually spot on Hecky ALWAYS makes the correct decisions and is bewildered at our continual inactivity in the transfer market..... I do think we are over-reacting slightly when looking at the bigger picture. Especially so given the Cavare incident and its impact on the match. We may go down, we may well just survive. That's enough for me this season. The takeover should rightly raise expectations next season.

But.... let's back Paul Heckingbottom. After years of bang average managers, many of whom were absolutely just passing through, we've got a Barnsley lad in charge who had us playing wonderful football, getting result at places we's not won at in years, had his best players depart and is now trying to rebuild whilst overcoming various hurdles. Let's get behind him.

 

Its a really difficult one. We were great with 11 men today and battled well with 10 against one of the form sides in the division after a stupid decision from Cavare, which neither Hecky or the plan can legislate for.

But, the fact remains we've won 1 game out of the last 15. We've scored about a goal every other game in that time and most of them have been scored by defenders. No matter how we played today or against Wolves or any other team we've competed against and not beaten, playing well but failing to win is not going to be good enough to stay up. We need to start winning again and at a basic level, we failed to do that again today.
