Mahoney has never scored any goals. It’s not about him making the step up. It’s more about him proving he’s capable at League level. He’s more comparable to Ugbo than Barnes in that he’s had most of his success in the development league.
Well he got 3 assists in 16 games last year in a terrible Blackburn team at championship level. When I saw him play live last year he was a class above every other player on the park. Which gives me hope that he’s improved being coached by a club like Bournemouth. At U23s level in premier league 2 he’s got 9 goals and 13 assists in 50 games which isn’t bad for a winger. I’m very pleased with this signing and hope he can show the form, or even better, than he did last year at this level. For once we have signed someone who isn’t “stepping up” or “stepping back up”. Hope we get a striker, CM and a GK who have shown they are championship quality. If we get those 3 in that will be a good Janauary. Coupled with Moore who has shown he may be a good striker - hopefully he gets a goal soon to give him confidence. Pinillos should be good when he gets up to speed. Add Mahoney, Williams and Isgrove to the squad that played Fulham - with 2 or 3 more championship class players and I think we will have a decent run in.
I’m happy with this signing. I think he’ll do well. I just don’t understand why yourself and Cricket gave such a negative spin on Kieffer Moore whilst giving such a positive spin on Connor Mahoney.
What was my negative spin on Moore? I’d only seen him play a bit, and my concern was whether he could score goals at championship level. Is that negative? Fair enough. I wasn’t “excited” by his signing - as I wasn’t about any of the unknown foreign players we’re targeting. I will always hope they do well. And so far he’s looked a useful addition. And I will trust the club to sign the right players until proven otherwise - they’ve signed some cracking players I wasn’t excited about, and signed some crap that I was excited about. I am far from a professional football scout and regularly am proven wrong.
You were just very negative about him compared to Mahoney. I think Moore and Mahoney are both exciting signings. It was all in the same thread where you were tearing me to pieces about making out I know what’s going on. Saying I was desperate for us to make a signing so I could PRETEND I knew it was happening ect. This is the thread below..
The same day that I sent you a private message to apologise for being an arsehole that day as I had just lost someone close to me, and was having a fairly bad week in general... Not too classy that mate.... but if it makes you feel clever knock yourself out.
It’s about time some of those that hammered me got shown up. All willing to gang up and give it but can’t take it. All the same. 4 of you now up for crawling in my inbox with an apology, but won’t apologise in front of the eyes of the people they were trying to convince I was a liar to.
You what mate? I apologised for being a *****. And offered. See my message below. For anyone who cares to read it. If you would like to continue this conversation I would rather now do it either in private or in person.
I had thought the matter had been put to bed in a grown up and respectful way a month ago. I found out tonight it hadn’t. Hope you feel better for it now.
On the admittedly small sample size of the once I've seen him live Mahoney performed well and that was at Championship level too, of course. Therefore I can't fault this signing based on my first hand knowledge. Not sure why much of this thread is then about Kieffer Moore but it does seem that if people don't follow what some posters assert about players and rely on our own faculties to make judgements there's summat up with us. My judgement of Moore was based on what I'd seen of him first-hand at games I'd actually attended this season. I've praised his performances for us so far albeit he should have scored at Villa. I wouldn't call 0 goals in two months before joining us as "red hot form" but vive la difference of value judgments I say.
I have seen Mahoney play. I also have a good friend who is a scout for a team higher up the food chain than us who scouted him last season and gave him glowing reports though ultimately the club he represents didn’t sign him. Again no idea why the need to drag Moore into it. Some signings catch the your eye and interest more than others. Our team has called out all season for an aerial presence and someone to link play and hold the ball up. I’d seen Moore play on 2 occasions ( he scored both times) but found his general play in a league below disappointing. This far he has played well and impressed though in his 2 games we have scored twice both goals from defenders so whether he can score or assist others in doing so enough goals to keep us up the jury is very much out.
