How come he's not put in a transfer request, he would get the same wages at Cardiff and more chance of the Prem.
Maybe he doesn't want to burn his bridges at Norwich. When he did it here he knew he could leave 6 months later regardless.
Am I right in thinking that handing in a transfer request loses the player's rights to certain bonuses in his contract? His bonuses with us were probably pretty low, on par with our wages, but you'd imagine that they're a lot more substantial where he is now.
If a player requests a transfer, he forfits the the money owed for the rest of his contract. If Watkins(for example) moves without requesting it, he will be owed the full value of his Norwich contract, plus the wages he will get from his new club. It's not ofter they will get every penny owed though, but there will be an agreement made between club and player with regards the settlement figure. I was shocked when I heard that was how it worked, but apparently there are some players who make a lot of money by "engineering" moves every season or two without actually making their desire to move official. When Watkins put in the request to leave us, the money he would have lost was dwarfed by his potential earning at Norwich...
That's different as in years gone by the player got 8% of the transfer fee but nothing if he put in a transfer request . Any idea when it changed ?
No idea. It's been the same for the past 6 years at the very least, as I remember being laughed at and called "naive" when I told a player I was out drinking with to bang in a transfer request if he wasn't allowed to move to a club he was interested in. He said that small piece of A4 paper(that the request would be on) would cost him tens of thousands!
