Am I the only one disappointed, with that? I think we may have enough to survive, just! It is not going to be comfortable though!
If it hadn't been for the take over I'd have been pretty pleased. But with billionaire owners, even ones who are going to be sensible, I expected a more exciting window. We've enough to stay up though.
Seriously? Other than the keeper we did what we needed to do. The French lad wasn’t important, it was just worrying when it collapsed that it may be a sign of things to come.
Let’s look at who we’ve bought in: Pinillos- bloody quality player. Bags of experience and looks great. Moore- big quick lad with an eye for goal. Needs a bit of support and some time but looks like he might come good. McBurnie- unbelievably promising. Has shone in a premier league team when he’s played this season. Mills- has (at times) been one of the best in the league in his position. Potentially a great leader. Knasmüllner- could potentially sort out our dearth of quality in his position. Very highly rated and could be a great signing. I hate to say it, but I’m feeling optimistic here. Plus keeping Yiadom is bigger than any signing we could’ve made. We’ll stay up comfortably.
Moore Pillinos Mahoney Knasmullner Mcburnie Mills That is a definite increase in quality. Nothing from a League One or Two. All players who can come in and improve us.
I think that we’re only a goalkeeper away from a fantastic window. We’ve loaned out Bird, Brown, DMH and McGeehan for first team experience. We’ve offloaded MacDonald where all clearly wasn’t right between the player and the club both on and off the field. We’ve signed an experienced centre half in Mills, a winger in Mahoney that we had tried to sign previously, Knassmüllner who’s the most exciting player this season in the Austrian Bundesliga plus McBurnie, Moore and Pinillos. I’m more than content, aside from the fact that we haven’t signed anyone to challenge or replace Davies.
A goalkeeper would have topped it off. The owners cant go throwing money around, we've still got the same income levels, we'd have a transfer embargo in no time. They need a summer to sort out new sponsorship etc. We've got some good experience in with some unknown, a good balance and probably the most we've ever spent in a Jan window when you factor in the wages.
I'm happy with the business we've done. 6 players in to freshen things up, provide cover and different options. Yiadom still here as well, which is positive.
I'm not underwhelmed but it's not been a dancing from the rooftops window either. Mills is the only one with championship experience. Would have liked another pacey striker to not rely on Bradshaw in that role. Another keeper was needed too.
The main thing is we’ve had a much better window than most of our rivals. Hull & Sunderland have had shockers in my opinion, Bolton’s pretty much sealed relegation with Madine going & Burton seem to be pinning their hopes on a well past it Darren Bent. I was genuinely worried Sunderland & Hull would splash the parachute payments but luckily it’s not happened
We’re in trouble, we’ve two decent strikers in Ollie and Tom but no one to supply them and our keepers w@nk, hopefully theirs 3 teams worse than us.
I agree completely. We didn't need to completely rebuild the squad.. I think we have done rather well this window.. Not sure what else people expected to be brought in based on our budget etc. Said it before, let Townsend have a crack in the nets if they feel Davies needs a sit out.. This thing about pushing a goalkeeper, what exactly does that mean, people just spout that with no reasoning behind the statement.. Only way you can push a goalkeeper is to perform well in training / reserves etc and we are told by Hecky that Townsend does this.. So there should be no issue of Davies not being pushed. We have a good selection of strikers now with differing options, decent wingers, cover at full back, hopefully enough at centre half, plus options across midfield, especially looking forward to seeing Knasmullner play.. Well done BFC from me...
A goalkeeper would have been a welcome addition due to the woeful form of Davies, but hopefully Knasmullners creativity and Mcburnies goals can counter that.
I'm disappointed that we didn't get Eastwood in from Oxford but more that happy with the business that we have done. We have been given a fighting chance of staying up. Let's get behind them now.
Great post. The ‘pushing Davies’ excuse is laughable. Basically blaming Davies poor form on Townsend not being good enough. If it’s not that it’s because the defence keeps changing. Then it’s because the goalkeeper coach isn’t good enough. To summarise, Davies is the only player in our squad who doesn’t have to take responsibility for his own bad form.
