Williams had a decent game today I thought. Prefer him to Gardner and as others have said I don't think we can play both.

Do you think all midfielders are the same?

Do you think the BFC midfielders you cite were the same?

    Many are not all rounders.

I'd become obsessed if we played Moncur and Mallan together.

Sadly at the moment i'm obsessed with how we might be better not playing Williams and Gardner together.

I've seen posts about how one sticks whilst the other twists, and ihow good that might still be.

I'd prefer a creative one further ahead, when we push forward, nearer the front, with a sense of what needs to be done to split a defence apart.

Rather than a hod carrier who gets near the other side's box then thinks about a square pass.

We do, both Williams & Gardner can do it. Williams has for Everton u23’s & Gardner’s done it before us.

They’ve generally had to be defensive midfielders for us because of Moncur & Potts

No I think both Williams & Gardner are all round midfielders, both like getting forward & joining in attacks but haven’t been able to because of Moncur, Potts etc.

Neither Mallan & Moncur can do the dirty side of the game, I doubt either of them could become a well rounded midfielder.

We’ve not got any creative central midfielders unless Knasmüllner proves to be one. Mallan can take a set piece but nothing in open play, Moncur has a decent shot but creates very little. Potts ...... well....... he runs around a fair bit

Williams and Gardner are an awful combination that bring out the worst in each other. Both have individual merits but playing them together is beyond pointless. They offer zero creativity or support for the forward players in effect we play a back 6 with them in the team together.

Scared poor management puts them together. One of the reasons we are In the bottom 3. It’s one of the main reasons we are difficult to best but never score.

And yet Gardner has had his best games for us alongside moncur. Go figure

Well I think you are right, in that none of our midfielders are truly creative.

But when you get to anywhere near their box then sadly you know, as was witnessed today especially in the case of Gardner, that nowt is liable to come of it.

You might get Mallan or Moncur getting a decent shot in, for example.

You’re probably right but in a midfield 4 I’d rather leave the creativity to the wingers & have the two strikers working off each other

I don't think that's what Gardner and Williams do though. They stay deep which leaves the wingers isolated and gives them few options
