While the basically attacking philosophy is to be applauded, you have to be smart enough to know what your squad is capable of. Hecky played 4-5-1 often, because he knew the limitations of our players. Even that was not going swimmingly towards the end of his reign. But 4-3-3 relies on a capable and fluent midfield, which we simply don't have. Jose has worked with some phenomenally talented players and an exceptional manager, but the makeup of our squad at present is such that we have an urgent need to grub for points and to win ugly, if possible. He simply has no experience of this, and is probably baffled at the lack of our current players to be able to do the basics. Today has come close to being the worst display I have ever seen of needlessly giving the ball away and placing passes astray, and next month I will have been watching this club for 50 years. And while we're on this, let's just mention the unmentionable here. That Patrick Cryne stepped in and saved our club - there can be no doubt. That he re-engineered our way of doing things - ditto. That he gave us the best season and a half since 1996-2000, another tick. But the liquidation of a talented team and the failure to properly back Heckingbottom by swiftly getting in a capable CEO and raising our sights in terms of recruits to match our league status and Hecky and his team's ability to develop them has left us in our current state. Did he owe us anything? No. But that is where we are left. It feels at the moment that our club has once again lost it's soul. There is little local connection in the ownership, administration, coaching and personnel of the club presently. This team is lacking in talent, spirit and direction. And experienced and talented though Jose Morais is, he is not the right man for this predicament, or our quest to get out of League One next year.
Wrong man wrong time. He has absolutely no credentials for a managers position at a club in the English championship. If I’m wrong I’m wrong but he seems like a complete charlatan to me. And I don’t think I’ve ever said that about anyone at Barnsley (so early). And wonder how many decent managers we made jump through hoops in interview process when GG had already selected him the Saturday before. Edit: would obviously love to be proved completely wrong.
You obviously have faith in Morais. There are many on here who will disagree with you for logical reasons
Folk should understand where I'm coming from here. I'm not saying I have any great belief in Morais. But equally, it's hard to believe he could be hired as assistant by Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea without having a fair degree of ability. I think we would be arrogant to say that his record here justifies an alternative conclusion. He is used to working with quality. We don't have it. Warnock would be a better fit for us at the moment - in fact the perfect fit. But he has bigger fish to fry at present. And like it or not, I think Jose is with us until the end of this season at least. The owners will need to have a good hard think about next year.
Morais is "wrong country". At this level. I applaud his bravery in burying Hammill. But even Hammill would have been in a 3 better out wide than Thiam, who let's face it is tosh. Without wingers we need drive forwards - Moncur did try but he's a show pony. We're down.
Just in time for Mick McCarthy to be out of contract and looking for a new job Reckon he'd be welcomed here with open arms by a lot of fans if we carry on playing in the way we have lately.
I left at 87 mins. He must have given the kiss of life to a heart failing Millwall full back in injury time.
