The thing is, if we were going to smash the clubs wage structure for morsy, I’d have rather done it for scowen who is a miles better player
Is at present, wasn’t then. That’s the difference for me. There was room in the side post Hourihane for both Morsy and Scowen but unfortunately it didn’t materialise.
He was decent for us but he chose league 1 and more money over championship football. If Wigan go up it’ll be interesting to see how he performs without Conor next to him and to see if he actually fancies a full season this time.
The thing is that when we couldn't afford Morsey and Scowen we were not in the financial situation we are in now.
Morsy wasn’t in the Wigan manager’s plans for whatever reason hence loaning him to us with an option to purchase. By the time we exercised the option Wigan had brought in Joyce who recalled Morsy and offered him a new deal. The fault well and truly is with our approach, imho.
The fault was definitely with us, we should’ve got the deal sorted. However, if he really wanted to test himself in the championship, I’m sure he could’ve pushed a move through to us. Wanted more money and the lower division but when do footballers not go for more money realistically so I can’t blame him too much.
We didn’t need to. Just needed to sign him for the fee agreed without allowing him to go back to Wigan
Wasn't it Joyce that let him go on loan and the Wigan fans outrage that he was playing so well for us while they were at the bottom of the league that made Wigan offer him a improved contract.
We could have bought him in August but a loan perhaps made sense Then we had an option to buy at an agreed price. Instead of exercising that option on 1st Jan and not letting Wigan have chance to recall him we played silly ******** with the fee. So they told us to **** off and recalled him You’d presume we’d spoken about a contact given we signed him on loan with a view to a permanent transfer....
Just said that Nick Powell chose to stay at Wigan than going to play in Premier league with Brighton. Wigan still paying the money it would seem. Pisser because we are a better club than them, both historically and potentially, but we seem to think we're Crewe.
Top player and still don't know how Wigan managed to keep him. If they bottle it this season, he could well end up with a good Championship side. Good enough for the likes of Leeds, QPR and Forest.
Yeah the Powell situation is a bit of a strange one. I would assume he’ll be off in the summer though. They had a spell in the premier league for a while and that FA Cup win so I suppose they still have illusions of being a big club. Back where they belong now though.
Redstar you are correct I knew the facts from both camps and it was linton who screwed this one....we had an agreed deal but linton tried been clever and withdrew the £500k for a lower offer...thus renaging on the deal. From this point he was a wigan player again. Morsy very much wanted to play for barnsley and was disappointed...it didnt turn out that way. It had nothing to do with wages...that was all in place.
I deliberately overlooked their bit of success because it was all bought by their sugar daddy. I think we could do better with a fraction of the investment, by just being better as a business than we have been. If history repeats itself and we go down and come back, we need to do things much better. We have better support than them and it needs the new guys to tap into it. Hopefully beginning with season ticketing.
If true, that's shockingly disrespectful. If that's an example of how we've been dealing with business then we deserve all we are getting.
