Out of interest, are you able to confirm who signed off on Winnall leaving to Wednesday for absolutely jack all?
No sorry ....i dont know....but im 100% confident on the morsy fiasco...made my blood boil at the time (still does) and it angers me when folk accue the player of wanting more money. Im lead to believe this and a couple of other things cost linton his employment.
With that in mind was it Linton who fecked up or was he given directives from above? Nothing that relates back to that unfortunate period in our playing history surprises me any more, we mucked up times many and as someone above has just said we are paying for it now. I really do hope we learned lessons from all that period otherwise if we are still going down that path then we are well and truly screwed.
It was Wigan's then Manager Gary Caldwell who agreed that we could sign Morsy for a set fee at the end of the season. Caldwell was then sacked . His assistant Warren Joyce rated Morsy and was appointed as Wigans interim manager and although he was sceptical about the prospects of him staying, he was recalled. In the intervening period, he must have been given assurances that he would play and they also offered him a much improved deal in the January which he accepted. He's been one of their most consistent performers ever since. He would have joined us, but Joyce wanted him more than us and got the Wigan hierarchy to put the money up to keep him- simple as.
Joyce wasn’t Caldwell’s assistant. I’m not sure where you’ve got that from or any of the other stuff.
At the time, Joyce was officially with Manchester United as a Coach. I know someone connected with Wigan who told me that Caldwell was struggling to get results and Joyce who was well known to the owners of the Club was asked "to provide him with some advice." When Caldwell was sacked in the November, they offered Joyce a permanent contract. After a run of poor results he was sacked in early 2017 and the last he heard of him, he was in Aussie as manager of Melbourne FC. The lad who told me this, did some scouting for the club and like some of the lads on this board , seems to pick up tit bits on what's happening on both the football and rugby side of things at the DW. Could be wrong, but that's what I was told.
Fair point. I ask myself this though, if he didn't want more money than what we'd offered, why did he opt to stay at Wigan.? An article I read in the Yorkshire Post, seemed to suggest we couldn't agree terms with him so on his return, when a new offer was made by Wigan, he excercised his right and signed it. Alluding to the Wigan scout I mentioned, they can't dictate what's on offer. They are told what the Club can afford and have to go with that figure. We don't know the true facts around Linton Browns departure. One can only assume, he offered Morsy what Patrick Cryne had authorised and unfortunately he knocked it back.?

The deal was agreed. We only needed to confirm it and instead we palyed silly ******** so Wigan recalled him and then offered him a new deal - he was no longer for sale to us unless he had pushed for the move and given we'd pissed player and club off...
Can't argue with that, but because we're not party to the full facts, we don't know for sure what actually happened and probably never will be.
