Surely that’s pretty obvious? We’ve now got forward options. Lads who were first choice like McCarthy, Hammill, Bradshaw, Pearson are well down the pecking order because of new players brought in & we’ve now got one of the best strikers in the league yet we aren’t getting points. That suggests something isn’t right. Still baffles me that people are acting as if both managers worked under the same circumstances with the same players. The players lacked quality in the first half of the season but there wasn’t issues with organisation
As much to do with them not being good enough as the new managers tactics. 7 wins in 38, 5 of them against the bottom 3 tells the real story. Bit out of order trying to blame the new manager when they weren't doing any better under hecky and his tactics.
This speculation is absolute rubbish. Half the squad are away on international duty and the rest have clearly been aloud to go home if you follow them on social media.
I would imagine the journalist who wrote that has heard something similar to what I've heard. We might have both been told what's actually happening or both heard the same bullsh*t. Whichever, it's a bit more nuanced than what's been reported. The story goes that José has been telling the players not to worry about the strengths and attributes of the opposition, but to believe in themselves. Our players, used to studying who is good at what in the opposition squad, have taken it upon themselves to research our opponents. Filter the above through a tabloid journalist and print it in The Sun and you get that the players don't believe in the manager's tactics and are coming up with their own. What I heard seemed plausible; what does José and his team know about players in The Championship? Even if we are employing someone abroad to analyse games, like has been stated on here, that's not the same as having a member of the backroom team who knows the division inside out. But that doesn't mean what I was told is right. It wasn't a good source, I can't verify it, it's just what I heard. Not sure if it's a problem even if it's factually correct. Maybe just telling the players to believe in their own strengths is the right way to go. Maybe players looking at what they're up against in their own time is no big deal. Every Premier League player knows what they're up against just from watching Match of the Day. I dunno.
It certainly seemed to be the case that Hecky worried too much about the opposition, to the point that it must have inhibited, demoralised and confused his own players.
I don’t follow Leeds & have no interest in how they’re doing. He’ll probably struggle there, it seems to be a bad job to take. All I care about is us & in my opinion he had a side that should’ve been bottom out of the bottom 3 when he left
Some campaigns you win - some campaigns you lose. Just like to know which of the players has read my stuff and decided to make a case of it.
This is nuts. While Jose is the manager we should play his way. If its not effective, get rid, but don't undermine him while trying to do his job.
If they have just been doing their own research as Jay says it’s understandable really. If they don’t feel prepared without studying the opposition then they aren’t going to believe in themselves anyway. I can see why they wouldn’t feel comfortable playing against a team they know nothing about when they are used to studying them all week.
100% spot on here, the very same people who hung on Hecky's every word, said he deserved next season etc despite an horrific record this term that would have seen anyone else sacked and they are now demanding removal of the new coach. I see Hecky is doing better at Leeds with higher quality players not...
Not too worried even if it's true. We may have a new coach by next season. We will hopefully have some new players, we may be in a different league. This season has been a disaster and I'm not surprised to hear a story like this. When you lose as many games as we have then it's natural to question everything and become desperate for a solution. Sadly we aren't good enough and no amount of tactical tinkering will alter this
Very true, I suppose the answer would be that they had faith rightly or wrongly in Hecky due to his previous success and that he has been the coach all the time the current squad were here. Now a new manager had come in as potentially said he wants to change everythin, results have stayed the same, so the players may feel his methods are no better. Now I'm not saying that's what I think but it could be how the players have seen it. Now to me it doesn't matter if we worry about the opposition or not, we still have the same poor squad.
Probably the players would have that view, just like managers think if they change formation or the starting 11 they will find the magic fix. Would take a brutally honest assessment for the players to go, well we aren't good enough footballers for this level. We will lose a lot of games because the other teams are just better than us.
What do you expect the club to say. "Barnsley Football Club would like to confirm that Jose Morais has lost the dressing room".
Going way over the top. ‘Hung on every word’. Come off it, it’s just common sense. He asked for forwards we didn’t get them. There was a general understanding amongst most that it was always going to be a struggle with Bradshaw, Ugbo & an unfit Thiam as our only 3 forwards as well as a new squad who’d never played at that level. If you add McBurnie & Moore to that & give a lot of them young lads about 20+ games at this level isn’t it only natural that you’d expect to be doing slightly better? I think so. Especially when McBurnie’s scoring for fun. For me we didn’t have the attacking quality under Hecky so we had to be as solid defensively as we could be, now we have that attacking quality but instead of it benefitting is we’ve gone the other way & lost our defensive shape. There’s no way of ever proving it but I saw enough of us in the first half against Fulham when we battered them before Cavare’s daft sending off that Hecky had got his 4-4-2 back with Moore & Bradshaw together up top. Add McBurnie to that who joined a few days later & whilst I don’t think we’d be anything special I think we’d have a similar points tally to Hull right now
