Worth recalling at this stage what the new team said when they came in: https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...sley-owners-rule-out-crazy-spending-1-8920824 I take from that that we won't necessarily see much change in how we operate. There is presumably no need to "cash in" at present. But then again, we don't currently have anyone that other clubs would pay good money for. Yids will go, I am sure, being ambitious and out of contract in the summer. And Oli will want a club with better short term prospects. It may be that we got lucky with the Hourihane/Winnall/Bree/Roberts/Scowen/Watkins generation, in which case we may take a few years to get back out of League One. They will do it eventually, I think, but it may not be a quick job.
If we are to get relegated then the current squad without mcburnie and yiadom should be good enough for promotion.
Hope I'm wrong but I don't see this at all. We only have a handful of players that have played at the top end of div 1 and three of them, Davies, Hammill and Isgrove are not even shadows of their former selves. Bradshaw played in a Walsall team with very good players around him that masked his all-round limitations and unremarkable conversion rate. (I'm not counting Moore as Rotherham were 13th when he started his last game for them). No leaders, very little pace, useless at free-kicks, sloppy at the back, un-dynamic in central midfield and with a bunch of 'flair' players who can't do it for 90 minutes - all the complete opposite of what it takes to get back up. I'd say this lot, without significant surgery, are more likely to go down again than get promoted first time. Imho, as a bare minimum a goalkeeper, two full backs, two central midfield players, two wingers and a pacy striker will be needed.
Moore scored a lot of goals at L1 level Moncur was also v good at that level as was Bradshaw League one is ***** in terms of quality in my opinion - a million miles off the championship I think Potts would be a good L1 player too
We would have a very strong league 1 side Malian Moncur Potts Moore Mcgeehan Thiam Isgrove Hammill eall would be dominant at that level, we also would have survived easily this year if we had got mcburnie and Moore type players last summer not january and if Hecky would have got the Norwich job.
I see the other week we had a trialist from Darlington and another that was here and now trying to get a contract at Yeovil.. so id suggest nothing has, or will change. Not in the near future anyway And the new board will have other dilemmas. to name but two. Both Moncur and Bradshaw enter their last year of contract.. so there's a problem there, what do you do. Cant really sell ,,re plan..no point you'd do well to even get your money back.. If we go down then id keep em and run the risk of losing both in 12 months.. As both would be top L1 players. And if we want to bounce back first time then these two I'm sure would play a big part..
We’ve seen precious little dear old George. One thinks that you may have to build a team to hide his weaknesses to get owt from him He’s not going to cut it at Championship level it seems so I’d be reluctant to offer him any new deal. Unsure with Bradshaw.
Hammill is out of contract in June. I can't see Morais offering him a new deal. I think he'll be off elsewhere.
Not over sure Morais will be here either I think if he goes early enough any British manager that may come in knows and appreciates what he would offer at that level and what he offers our club and community as a whole.
I know your not a fan with the amount of slaggings.. he and others have been a huge disappointment.. Just think, like others he would make a good L1 player As for Bradders, I feel him and Moore would be a very good L1 pairing.. ED Seem to have spilt mi answer in two some how..
I Seriously hope so. Yes I am a huge Hammill fan and yes he has had a rather poor season but so have most of the squad. I was on board with the appointment of Morais but I feel now he is just full of hot air. I don't think he understands the English game well enough and he doesn't appear to be a great leader.
Like I say, his past record at L1 level suggest he will be good but he was in a team that was relegated. To get anything out of him you’d need to have two players prepared to do the graft he won’t do.
The squad, Hammill, Morais the supporters shouldn't be in this position, we have suffered because we didn't sign strikers of Moore and mcburnie quality in the summer and Hecky playing his games with the owners, fans and other clubs plus his stubbornness in playing Bradshaw upfront on his own to prove a point for a big part of the season has cost us dearly. We just have to keep going now and see what happens.
Or we may bounce back at the first attempt IF we're relegated. If we stay up, then I'll be a supporter of a Championship club. If we're relegated, then I'll be a supporter of a Division 1 club. My support doesn't start when things are going well, or finish as soon as the good times end. To me, being a Barnsley supporter is like being married. You enjoy the good times and stay loyal to each other when the going gets tough. Others can do as they wish, it's their choice which they're entitled to make.
I can't disagree with any of that. Fair points, I hope Morais does succeed. I'm just sceptical, I would like to see more direct talk and not as much psychological waffle. It's almost like the Hoddle days of psychic healers for England
