I completely agree with the dandruff shampoo. They can get very expensive and should be provided. Paracetamol are different though IMO.

Maybe the solution to the paracetamol issue is still providing a prescription for large amounts, but not allowing it to be collected for free. I know a lot of people that stockpile paracetamol, because they get it free.

I agree that that is a concern. I'm not sure why people who need it aren't taking it or if it is being prescribed too easily like antibiotics used to be - but that's a different issue altogether. I'm not sure what the solution is but it seems strange to see people happy that less has been made available, it's a very slippery slope once it has begun.

Thank God absolute drain on the NHS as someone who's brother works as a finance manager in the NHS the NHS is not underfunded but badly managed to the point of laughable where as some hospitals in the London borough pay upto 3 pounds per pint of milk for staff don't believe me research it they had no idea that the supply company had hiked up the price so much absolute joke

I've researched it and can't find anything anywhere about the milk, do you have a link? However, even if it is true, it doesn't follow that some medicines should be no longer available to people who can't afford to buy it because someone was too careless to check their invoices. You've just admitted that it's not underfunded so continuing to prescribe these medicines shouldn't be a problem. It sounds like the finance team need to get better at their job, not that poor people should have to forgo healthcare.

For a GP to prescribe a box of 32 paracetamol, when you take into account dispensing and GP consultation fees, it costs £34. The same box of paracetamol in a shop costs well under £1.

It is not underfunded it is badly managed the money pumped into the NHS the wasted millions instead of reading the red tops and listening to political propaganda read a financial report from private eye or the enquirer how about the 20 women with children already over the age of 40 having numerous IVF on the NHS then tell me it's not overfunded especially in the wrong areas

Government should be applauded for stopping prescriptions for dozens of stuff to save money. Barmy we offer freebies for stuff like dandruff and athletes foot. Hopefully this 100 million a year they reckon it will save, will be used for more worthwhile patients such as those with cancer and getting waiting lists down.

Went to pick up my mum's (free- she's 83) prescription. Crossed out paracetamol- thought I'd save NHS a few quid, and buy some from Asda for 19p. Unfortunately her carers won't give her them because they're 'not prescription drugs'
    D'oh!!

I am sure that this decision will be pain free for the majority and very painful for the needy minority.
