It is generally the worst time to buy but we were desperate for some quality . We got Mcburnie and keiffer and a load of pap.
Very true. The definition of “turnover” is interesting as it would mean in theory that we could remain unaffected. http://www.financialfairplay.co.uk/scmp.php
Who else? I don’t see anybody except one of Blackburn / Wigan if they don’t go up. How good would Sunderland be? Club in crisis, ageing squad, up **** creek financially
I’d agree to an extent but now we have gone from one who had a connection to the town to venture capitalists out to make a profit who presumably won’t think twice about chuffing off or shutting us down if that fails.
We shouldn't accept relegation - Preston 60pts Millwall 62pts - neither team have any more money or more fans then us.
Jeez. Is that what you really think FFS !!! That billionaires have bought Barnsley to make a profit. Lol
Agreed, said on another thread Millwall and Preston have nearly twice the points we have and they don't exactly spend millions or get 20K gate.
Venture capitalists are not altruistic. They took on a financially stable risk free project to make a profit. There medium term goal will be premiership and profit. If that fails they will cut their losses. If you don’t know that you know nothing about venture capitalism.
None of that says the club deserver to be in league 1 next season. Only the points total after 46 matches will be the deserving factor, end of story. Financially it would be a disaster to lose all the income associated with being in the championship. Regardless of the owners personal wealth, the clubs books and the type of players we can bring in to the club in the summer will be in a far worse situation. Sorry but I can't take the argument that the club is better off in anyway by getting relegated seriously. Absolutely zero benefits and is the defeatist way out... Going down will put the club back 5 years minimum, it is still a tough league to get out of, especially if you don't bounce back the following year..
We just escaped league one purely via the play offs at the last minute after a freak season. If it was that easy to get out, we would have walked the league. 11 v 11 at the end of the day.
Halibut is a sea fish while tinkers is freshwater. The correct analogy would be the Common Carp. Which ironically Tinkers is now almost devoid of.
Still bottomless. However its been a food source for the locals for the last couple of years so anything over a few lbs has gone.
I’ve never said it’s easy to get out. I’m talking about who’s in a better position to get out. My view is we’d have a relatively settled squad, many of whom are proven performers at that level. We’d be in a better position than at least 3/4ers of the league
I think that there is an argument that this January is representative of what our dealings will look like. It's true that the new owners had only been in place for a matter of days, but it was said often enough that the targets were already identified. It was just a case of which level of spend was authorised as to how far we went. Presumably the targeting was done by Gauthier (now the most powerful and influential man in our setup), Hecky and his team (including analysts) and James and his spreadsheet. The new board don't appear to be football people in themselves. So presumably the Summer dealings will be enacted by the same cast, with the input of Jose and his team substituted for that of Hecky's? Some would argue that Jose appears to have little understanding of the Championship basement, let alone the alehouse league. On the other hand, one has to accept that he hasn't had long. But time was never on our side. There are issues going forward. McBurnie, Williams and Yiadom are almost certain to depart. The new owners have signalled that things will run on much the same lines, and that we will "live within our means". That of course is reduced means in League One. But we have signed most of the current squad on longer deals than previously, and few, if any of them look saleable. Nor (purely in my opinion) do they look remotely good enough to launch a promotion push in League One. So unless our new owners change tack from what they have stated publicly so far, our sojourn in League One may not necessarily be a short one. Top of the shopping list in my book would be a slightly more experienced true midfield leader - someone in the Neil Redfearn mould (though obviously not of that standard). While the 2015-16 squad blossomed suddenly, let's not forget the impact of the injection of Kevin Long, Adam Hammill and Aidy White into the mixture at a crucial point.
