Thousands of people would disagree with you including Sky who have got a channel or two dedicated to SPORT which covers of all things Darts. Can’t beat a bit o Bully
No doubt they would, but you only have to look at the state of darts players like him and many others - don't try and tell me these are sportsmen.
At top level the Dress Code (for PDC & BDO) does not permit Trainers so if you turn up wearing 'em you have to change your footwear therefore it is a sport!
Darts is definitely a sport. In fact, I'd argue with the PDC schedule nowadays that darts players work harder than most other sportsmen do. Players get a few weeks at home in a year if they are lucky. If you think it's not a sport, you clearly have an old fashioned image of darts in your head.
R.I.P Eric Bristow, a darting legend. He is one of the main reasons why darts is the sport that it is today.
Hmm, ok - we all have our own opinions obviously. To be honest the "sport" of darts is never in my head, modern or old fashioned image notwithstanding. It's not something that I have ever had an interest in. I won't comment any further on it but, for me, there are pub games that will always include dominoes, cribbage, skittles, cards, pool and......darts. Whether TV companies choose to cover these events is irrelevant. Sport usually means getting yourself to an appropriate level of fitness and excelling at what you do. By that I mean getting as good as you can at the game, whatever level that game is played at. You don't need any kind of fitness for the activities I've just listed above.
Cricket clearly is a sport, you may not like or appreciate it but it is. If you are doing us a list what about Golf?
You do often have to maintain whatever level of fitness you are at darts, a sudden weight gain or loss would severely damage a player's game due to the change in throw that they would need. Not to mention, a lot of the younger darts players now do attend the gym and keep themselves in good shape. Some players don't even drink nowadays. Darts is a lot more professional than the pub games you listed above, there's enough money involved now to make sure of that.
They do call it "motor" sport to differentiate it in fairness. Interestingly most F1 drivers will be fitter than many other sportsman and to drive a F1 car puts your body under severe physical stress. I'd you simply don't like it that's fine but it doesn't take away front the skill and ability of the guys who drive. I for example have absoulety zero interest in and form of rugby, I can still appreciate the levels of strength and skill involved in the sport.
