When he went off he was absolutely knackered and we were practically playing with 10 men. Can't fault his game yesterday but keeping him on wasn't even an option
The only criticism that I’ve got of JM’s subs yesterday is that the Isgrove change didn’t occur five minutes earlier as he was so visibly exhausted and/or injured that he was just in no man’s land, unable to defend and also unable to support when in possession.
He was but as I said he was the only one who was getting forward and I can understand why some were getting frustrated - especially swapping a central midfielder for a wide man. We were also getting overrun so I can why another central midfielder was a better option. I didn't boo but I can also understand why some did
Moncur needs to work on his fitness. He has skill. At the moment he's better as an impact sub for me. Let's face it we were all bamboozled by the substitutions, but it worked.
Sums him, was saying yesterday he is the player in our squad who annoys me the most. Obviously has a lot of ability but just doesn't seem to want to back it up with work. It's so frustrating to see.
What were they booing? Moncur’s a show pony. His effort early on was superb but he spent the rest of his time on the pitch taking an extra touch & doing extra step overs instead of playing an early ball that was on. Twice Potts made superb runs & Moncur didn’t even attempt to play him in until way too late. He’s frustrating because he is talented but he doesn’t seem to be able to put his talent to proper use
Only bit I found ridiculous was when Davies was taking his time restarting the game when we got back to 2-2 a few around me getting annoyed with him.
Totally baffled me at the time, mixed signals from the players. When McBurnie scored he grabbed the ball and set off back for the halfway line. Then Davies seemed to want to take the point.
He was doing that all game. Slowly puts ball down for the goal kick. Steps back a few paces, kicks boots against goal post. Checks boots that no more mud in studs, hand in air, then kick.
For me it seems he has never matured beyond boys football. He’s got lots of talent as evidenced when he hit the bar but that also evidenced his immaturity as he then proceeded to wave his arms around at at hitting the bar.
When I played decades ago I was coached to "take my time" when we had a goal kick, to give our lads a breather. Depending on the game situation of course - if we were winning they got a long breather, if losing, ****** to the breather. Later on, keeping wicket at cricket, I used the same principle to give our bowlers a breather.
Oh I get that. It was just like he didn’t realise we needed to get on with it and try and win the game. Potts did the same with taking a free kick not long after.
How is it possible that George Moncur is knackered after one hour? He's a professional footballer. I'm unfit but still can run around non stop for a few hours haha
