Already looking to next season... We're clearly not good enough for the Championship, but we do have a squad who look pretty strong by L1 standards, and Yids aside, how many are going to get picked up by bigger clubs this summer? Lindsay, Fryers and Bradders at a push? Even before new signings, loans and U23s moving up, this looks decent to me, if they stick around of course: Walton/Davies/Townsend (take your pick) Cavare Jackson Pinnock Pinillos Isgrove Potts Moncur Hedges Thiam Moore Subs: McCarthy, Pearson, McGeehan, Hammill, Mallan, Knasmullner.
You think that a big club will have watched Liam Lindsay and Zeki Fryers' performances and will pay money for them based on what they've seen?
Imho that starting eleven would be relegated unless Jackson, Pinnock and Moore performed near miracles every week.
Well, kind of my point - we are less likely to be picked apart by the vultures than most relegated outfits.
What I've seen on that that pitch over the last 3 months would even struggle in L1. I honestly think wholesale changes would be needed even if we go down.
A couple of good additions and we would get automatic promotion. People need to get perspective just because our team isn’t good enough in the Championship doesn’t mean they won’t be in L1. The worst Rotherham side in living memory went down sold their leading scorer and still are comfortably in the play offs.
I have not been on the Sunderland message board but I would have a guess that there are similar posts to this but when the bookmakers formulate their odds for next seasons promotion , Sunderland will be favourites to be champions & if we do drop then we will not be far off behind them . Now the bookies are not always right, but usually they are there or there about , as proven this season with Wigan & Blackburn
Sorry ST but do you think Shaw Lane could get a player into the Scottish Premiership team of the season like Lindsey did? I sometimes think that this board is a hyperbolist's dream.
We need some steel & nous in the team, especially in midfield. We also need someone who can score goals. We need a manager who can set up a team for L1. At the moment we are as likely to be MK Dons as Blackburn IMO.
Well maybe it's a confidence thing because at the start of the season he was getting glowing reviews from all and sundry on here. I don't think you can stress enough how much confidence affects a team's/player's performance levels. I can't say for sure because i don't know enough about the player or football in general but i'd say that in a winning team he could shine next season in League One.
HMS Piss the League. Wednesday-esque. But we will though, spending power, squad, year of the dog, times square marketing, Billy Beane might turn up etc etc. We'll all be bitching half way through though when Everton snap up Walton for a measly £12 million and Young Nudger can't understand it because he thinks we're potentially bigger than them.
