He’s right - we lack self belief and confidence. The first 10mins or so yesterday we were nervous, tetchy and lacked a bit of belief. Moore scores, and then we looked a different team - I’d say we dominated from there on. Like he said in the past (and what Hecky said too), it’s a young and inexperienced squad - And that’s where the problem has been and why were are not consistent. That’s why he said last night - it’s just time the squad needs. He believes the squad with a few changes will, over time, be successful. He’s had 9 weeks in his role - and I understand what he his saying. I’m not pro-JM, but I’m not anti-JM either. It was a difficult job for anyone coming in. That’s why I say give him until xmas. If he still comes out with same lines then, and we are still struggling, then yeah - maybe he isn’t good enough and get shut.
I’ve got to agree, first 10 minutes I was fearing the worst as we were chasing shadows but after our goal I thought we were the far better side. In fact, I don’t really remember them having actually having a good chance whereas we had a few very good chances.
Deffo. That first 10mins was scary stuff - I thought it’d be another Forest game. Yeah, Walton not really tested and a little more composure/luck would have seen us probably come away with a 4-0 victory. Which sounds barmy - but anyone who watched it would agree a 4-0 would have been easily doable.
Yeah Walton had 2 shots to save that went straight at him? And a couple of balls in behind that he came and collect calmly (refreshing to see). And yeah I don’t think anyone could’ve argued at 4-0 considering Kieffer missed a couple of guilt edge chances. Let’s hope for a replica of yesterday next Sunday!
They obviously came with a plan to get off to a flyer and score the first goal, which is understandable given our fragility. As soon as we got the goal, it quietened their fans and gave us a massive lift and we didn't let up. Pressure is a great leveller, hence why there are cup shocks, and it wasn't just on us yesterday, they were playing for a tilt at getting into the premier league. Proud of the lads for yesterday. They beat a good team convincingly.
The problem now, is that we are inconsistent. To repeat that performance next Sunday will be something we haven’t witnessed all season. Fingers crossed!
Similar situation to yesterday though. Derby can't afford to lose so pressure on both teams. We could lose and still stay up if other results are kind.
Even before yesterday i felt the criticism was harsh given what he inherited, the injury to Williams which has limited his options and the fact since he came in, home performances have been better (and deserved more points). Tactically he got it right playing Hammill to restrict Brentford playing through Woods, who if we had let him, would have dictated the game. The most impressive aspect yesterday was how we played out of possession, which was the best this season. Really hope we stay up as it will be interesting to see what he could build.
Agreed! Although i like Williams he just doesn't fit well next to Gardner who has gotten much better without Williams at the side of him
