Ganaye - Interesting comments

We need to be very careful about assessing the squad, I think a lot of factors have been at work behind the scenes that will have impacted player development and things might be quite different if/when they are changed. Even if we stay up I suspect Morais will be asked to move on. If this is the case then assessing the squad should be left to the new team. Granted, there may be some 'no brainers' to shift on, but I think the majority of them could be much better players under a different regime.

 

He didn’t set him on alone certainly but he’s running the club more completely than the previous incarnations you mention by all accounts.

The new owners have proved in France that they don’t get overly involved.

 

GG runs the club day to day.. making sure the gas bill and the milk man are paid. He is the public face of the club, but who ever pays the piper calls the tune.. and kind of decision above day to day will come from the owners..

I agree with others in that the criticism he gets on here sometimes is over the top and I also agree with others that, judging that interview, Jose won’t be here if (when) we go down. It could just be a misinterpretation though as I’d expect Jose to still be here and get a chance to work with players not brought in previous to him.

I think Ganaye can be a success here in the long run.

 

It's amazing what a win can do to alter fans perceptions. Last week a lot of folk were saying that we would
lose to Brentford and we would be relegated and Morais would probably be relieved of his duties at the end of the season.
Now the mood is a lot brighter and dare we say it, if we can get a result at Derby and Burton, Bolton, Birmingham
or Reading slip up, we've got a good chance of staying up in what is one of the most competitive leagues in football.
That fact was brought sharply into focus for me on a programme on the BBC on Saturday featuring Steve Clarke who
now manages Scottish Premiership outfit Kilmarnock. That guy has a wealth of experience. He's now 54 year old and has
been involved in the professional game from the age of 17. He was a coach at Newcastle, Chelsea, West Ham, Liverpool
and Villa before being appointed as manager of West Brom in his own right. After leaving Albion he was appointed as boss
of Reading. He was doing OK , so much so, that Fulham asked for permission to speak to him. He did that, but decided against taking the job and was rewarded with the sack four weeks later. His take on the English game is that the Premiership teams will use all the tricks/resources they can to stay in the League and that most Chairman in the Championship put undue pressure on their manager by insisting they get the Club promoted to the Premiership, to the point that in some cases you've now literally got weeks, not months, or years to prove your worth. Notwithstanding these comments, it was interesting that he added that if the call came to manage a Club in England he'd take it. I have to say I was very impressed with how he came over and would think after seeing the programme, someone in the Championship could do worse in the future than give him a call. If Jose does eventually leave us, I honestly think that Steve Clarke would be a very able replacement.

 

Not far off mark that, he will have an influence on recruitment of a Manager but not beyond realms of possibility he was told the wishes of the Owners.
Equally on player recruitment his job will be to negotiate contracts not identify the players, so baffles me how he gets so much stick over this.

 

Steve Clark has never really been successful in his own right though as he(same as anyone else really), his main claim to fame is being a coach with some big clubs and notably with Mourinho, so individuality aside makes the criteria same as we have.

 

I think you have to ask how we ended up woth Morais. Did he see the vacancy and bob in a CV? If so it's GG's fault for picking him from the pile. More likely, somebody within our footballing network knew him (or of him) and he has been chosen by the directors.

 

I really like him, hes a had a full on job, working on putting together a new squad, then manager leaving plus the take over. thats a lot in less than a year. he also seems to care and shows alot of passion for the club.

 

Problem is - what if we aren’t relegated???

In my view - we have seen enough to know he can’t hack it in the lower leagues - so he needs to leave no matter what happens.

However - he might be a good manager in the Premiership or with his own players - but he has shown he cannot organise and motivate a squad he adopts - which to me is a something a good manager should be able to do.

So how long are the owners going to give him if we don’t get relegated?

 

Ah yes, his zero games for us in the lower leagues is enough to show he can't hack it in those leagues

 

Were you at the game last saturday Nudger ? If you were , you would have seen that the lads gave everything & were very organised & highly motivated , or do you disagree ?

 

in fairness he took over a team on a poor run and must have been low on confidence. It takes time to turn that round and when they are so young it is exaggerated further. Even arguably the best Manager in history of Football in Ferguson took time to turn Man U round.
Let’s see what the Summer brings and give him chance to build his own team.
