Once had that very conversation with a loon I used to work with. I tried to explain that for them to melt that would mean "become a liquid" and that steel can break without being in it's liquid form. Total waste of time, he also thought the moon landings were a hoax.

Do any of them genuinely believe the earth is flat, or are they just crackpot attention seekers?

Dare say it's a mix of the two. A bit like most religions.

I don't know.. but what you are told to be truths are not... but what is
clear when anyone scratches beneath the surface, what you are told to expect without question don't add up..

Can’t believe folk will admit to not knowing enough to understand that Earth is not flat on a public forum. Or am I missing something here?

Most creationists don't deny evolution. Of course god in his benevolence would give his creatures the ability to adapt and survive changing circumstances.

But if evolution in your sense is true - how come the dinosaurs didn't evolve to a humanoid state and invent the motor car and evlove to play super mario T Rex - they were around long enough.

Most scientists can't explain or certainly can't repeat the six acts of creation.

Amazing that despite some people saying the bible is the incoherent ramblings of a goat heard in Persia 10,000 years ago - this ill educated goat herd just happened perchance to choose six things that science hasn't got a clue to repeat as gods six acts of creation. you'd thought an incoherent goat heard would have got one of them wrong..

How did conciousness evolve...... how did life begin and how does new life begin. .
How did mass / energy / time / space come to be. - In fact the big bang which science so proudly rattles on about was predicted by a clergyman who used Einsteins theory of relativity to prove that science was simply the language that god had written the universe and he confirmed that what science calls the big bang was simply gods act of creation. Explaining how god did it isn't the same as proving he didn't do it.

I reckon that ought to do it.

They were on Jeremy Vine yesterday as well, banging on about the moon landings being staged etc.

Too much thinking time on their hands for me.

Firstly, they're bonkers and desperate attention seekers
Secondly, so what. If the world was flat then so what?
Lastly, why would it be a 'secret'? Flat, round, hexagonal whatever.

I think all the other planets are flat. It's just ours that is roundish.

Apparently they also believe Leeds United won the European Cup.

    Worrying.

Simple answer - because they didn't. Evolution is random and not a process towards a set goal. Evolution doesn't see surviving via intelligence or technology as any more or less worthy than surviving due to being a massive lizard with sharp teeth.

On the subject of dinosaurs how come the bible doesn't mention them? And how can creationism be correct when dinosaur fossils are demonstrably older than human ones?

What 6 acts? Admittedly everyone struggles to explain the creation of something from nothing (unless there has always been something), but science can explain the formation of planets, stars, seasons etc. pretty well.

Anyone who argues against a spherical planet, or the age of the planet or the existence of evolution is either:

    a) Thick
    b) a religious nut
    c) a troll

You simply cannot argue against the solid, documented scientific evidence that is out there. Gravity, physics, biology, natural selection, environmental factors, weather... It's crushingly obvious to anyone with a functioning brain.

Science doesn't have the answer otherwise it would stop.
Speaking of ramblings I think this post might qualify.
If you choose to believe god created everything that's fine I have no problem with you believing that.
Using the bible to "prove" anything does not stand up to scrutiny. The bible states the earth is 6000 years old. That the stars in the sky are "less than" the sun and would fall out the sky as one of the signs of the second coming. To even write that would show that you have no idea what those things are. So then people go back to the bible and 're interpute it and say things like "that's not ment literally it ment figuratively"
By all means get your spiritual fulfilment from the bible.
Science does not have all the answer but that doesn't mean you can fill in the gaps with whatever fairytale you like.

If something as complex as the universe has to have a creator then would not the creator be even more complex and in turn need a creator?

Technically, the planet Earth isn't spherical or a sphere, it is an oblate spheroid that is flatter at the poles and bulges around the equator.
