Finish in the low 40s points wise ..if we do manage to stay up, it must shout out load and clear that what we are doing and the people we have doing it ..are simply not up to the task at hand... Top to bottom.. Not going to be easy if we drop, or great, but staying up tho will be a hell of a lot harder next season... Another big summer will be needed, and people who know what they are doing.. to do it
I definitely agree that wages are the main issue, but £40k a week sounds pretty excessive for the Championship, even in the current overheated climate. Bearing in mind that the average Premier League wage is "only" £50k, which itself will be distorted upwards by the insane salaries paid at the top end. Winnall moved to Wednesday for a reported £18k and Hourihane for £27k. I would have thought that to attract the really exciting young up and coming players and retain the solid second tier ones like Scowen and Robbo, we'd have to be looking to bring our wage structure up to a level where we could be paying around £15k. A lot of the players earning in excess of £30k in the Championship are ex-top flight players who have been relegated or are getting on. Not generally the sort of players we're looking to sign anyway.
I think the "£40k" was hyperbole, but the sentiment still stands. In the grand scheme of things the club is seen as small time and proven players at this level will generally only consider a move for hugely inflated wages. Hopefully, the owners have already upgraded the wage structure, as before we were a bit of a laughing stock. I've mentioned it before, but I know a player who had two offers on the table at the start of last season(a player with going on 200 championship appearances), one from us, and one from a League One club. He was interested in coming aboard, but the L1 club completely blew us away on the wages front. Now, i won't say who it is or the clubs(I'm sure it's not too hard to work out, but he asked me not to actually name him when telling the story, so if you could please respect that, it would be great), but the club was in a massive mess financially, but could still beat is on wages.
Andy Yids has got better and better as the season drew out it seams that the Huddersfield link put him off his game but since then I feel that he should have been given player of the year
How does anybody know how much a player earns, its all speculation and bull **** There are probably only three people who know how much is earned ...the player...the person who signed the contract and the person who signs the check
The players know how much each other are on, and what bonuses they get. I know they are not supposed to speak about it, but apparently it's all openly discused in the changing room. Because of this, the figures leak out.
Interesting story. However, it's fair to say that any League 1 side blowing even a lower Championship side out of the water on wages is quite likely to have some chickens coming home to roost in the not too distant future.
Good. It's about time some teams started properly coming a cropper for their profligacy. Obviously it's a pity for the fans, but the current situation is beyond ridiculous.
do you know how much your workmates earn (I doubt it doesn't everyone get fed up of people thinking /saying they have the ear or inside knowledge from the club and players ...if we aren't meant to know then we will never know.so please stop trying to convince every one that your someone special
I know how much certain players earn at 2 clubs(well, ballparks) because they have told me on nights out etc... Something I have found out about people with good incomes, and in particular footballers is that they LOVE to let you know how well they are doing. I also know of one player in particular that got fined the maximum two weeks wages as a director walked in on him bragging to some fans how much he earned the year prior to the penny(including bonuses and endorsements), when it is specified in the contracts that the info should be confidential.
