Still can't believe Clough hasn't already been poached from Burton.. Expereince of the championship on the smallest budget and kept Burton there as long as us previously. Certainly knows how to get out of league 1 and no doubt knows the cluibs in that league inside out as well. It's a no brainer, I wouldn't class this seasons relegation with Burton as a failure as such taking into consideration the limitations of what Burton can expect (and I mean that with no disrespect to them, side by side they make us look a big club)... He had that team fighting tooth and nail til the final minute and always has done. Did well at Sheff Utd with what he had and didn't deserve to be sacked only losing in the play offs and taking them to a league cup semi final...Very harsh sacking.

Like I say, no brainer.. I can't see another manager who fits the bill better, given the full support and backing I would be confident of challenging for the top spot next season with him and his team at the helm.

Not a bad call. I think he may stick at Burton though.

Different kettle of fish and probably has very little bearing on any decision now. Things were not good behind the scenes at Forest, he would have been on a hiding to nothing, plus he wanted to see the season out with Burton. He has done that, the time is probably right for a move right now..

he would be perfect fit for the club but tbh he is proper old school and I can't see him wanting to get involved with our boardroom and spreadsheet ********

Bizzare post pingiskola... My whole point is that he is the ideal one to get us out of league 1, but also noted that when he got to the championship on the smallest budget had the same players fighting right to the end.

    No.
    Failed at Blunts.
    Clough suits Burton.
    Like Hecky suited Barnsley.

Isn't this all just being a bit ""Wednesdayish" implying that he could be tempted away from "little old Burton" to join a "big club like Barnsley".

I've got a mate who is a big Burton fan, he also gets to know a lot of what goes on there. He'd love to see the back of Nigel, but knows he'll never be sacked for what he's done for the club over the years.

So it's a no from me.

if we are wanting a manager who has never failed, then it will have to be either a total newcomer or lower leaguer

No from me, has lots of experience but he tends to sign so many ageing has beens for Burton and I do not want to go down that road again at Oakwell. We did it a few seasons back under Wilson when people like Lawrence, Scotland, Harewood etc. all showed up and most were crap.

At Burton he has recently signed people like Warnock, Bent, Dyer as well as others I cant think of off top of my head.

Didn't fail at the Blunts though, given another season he would have had em promoted. Play OFFs and League Cup Semi in same season for a league 1 club doesn't say failure to me.

Someone else mentioned signing ageing journeymen at Burton.. Well come on he has to work within their means. They showed more desire than us in the end trying to maintain their champ status. That says a lot about leadership.

They do show desire yes that is a fact. But as for the point with working within the means, yes they have a small budget but so did we and we did not go down that road. He chose to sign those older players, he could have spent that money on younger players from other leagues like we do but he didn't. I do not think he is a terrible manager but he would not be one I would approach at all if I was in charge. Plus I don't think he will be one we do look at.

no Burton are down because they have by far far the lowest resources of any club in the division and should have finished bottom by 15 points

The two clubs with the highest average age squad are Cardiff City and Aston Villa, they've done OK yeah?
