Look at him on paper. Promising guy, worked as a (supposedly) key part of one of the most successful teams in football in the last 20 years. Obscenely intelligent, speaking multiple languages, probably coming across unbelievably well at interview. I think it’s clear to see why everyone loved him, and just think how smug we would’ve been if it’d gone well- a no brainer, right? How come no-one else thought of that? Simple fact was that he was promising but unproven, and the gamble didn’t pay off.
our inexperienced (in English football) board were seduced by all the champions league ****, have a look back at the first few tweets we put out when he came in with all the tick boxes champions league, premier league *****
All they had to do was google him and discover it was all bollacks when it came to his managerial record.
The trouble was though that, managerially speaking he WAS proven. His stats made extremely disturbing reading. That should have been proof enough that he was unlikely to suddenly hugely improve them at a struggling team. Ah well, as long as we learn our lesson.
Yes Morais had a great CV. And the vast majority of supporters thought it was a fantastic appointment at the time. So the board did well in getting him. But obviously Morais was unsuitable. It’s been an expensive decision by the owners that has to be rectified. My concern is that Ganaye and the owners don’t have the links to people in football that Patrick had.
Because our primary targets turned us down. I know they said Morais was our first choice, but that demonstrably wasn't true, they were just saving face. We'd approached managers of other football clubs, but they said no. It was in the press. Not bullsh*t made up stories, but interviews with managers we'd targeted. If you don't get your first choices, you have to settle for something else. The something else we chose to settle for was Jose Morais. There are very valid reasons for that choice - intelligent bloke, worked with many top clubs and players, lots of experience. Up against other options we didn't really want, those in charge thought him the best candidate. But the reality is, who we really wanted wouldn't join us.
After the appointment of Morais - Ganaye said on Radio Sheffield that they had spoken to several managers and they were not telling the truth if they said that Barnsley had offered them the job because they had only offered Morais the job.
I know he did, he was saving face. You don't ask for permission from chairmen to speak to their managers and not intend to offer the job.
I wouldn't say that's strictly true Jay. How do you know if a person is suitable without interviewing him? Assuming you've not already gone behind his club's back and had a chat with him on the quiet. Again everybody's working on supposition rather than facts. I do strongly disagree with the assertion that he had a good cv though. Being on a coaching staff is miles different to actually managing and motivating. One look at his record on google should surely have been enough to worry anyone. Furthermore, surely whoever was interviewing should have ascertained that his main role at Chelsea was scouting the opposition and nothing to do with handling players anyway.
Problem with the Morais appointment was that he was selected to manage a team he knows nothing about, with players he knew nothing about, in a league he knew little about against opposition he'll have known little or nothing about. And his mission, in them circumstances, was to save us from the drop. Despite his past exploits, I actually believe ANY poster on here would have been better placed to save us, and believe Paul Harsley would have had far more chance of succeeding too. We just appointed the wrong person.
He probably did come across as an intelligent manager / coach but just how much say did he have when it came to tactics team selection and team decisions on a day to day basis with the chosen one,not much id say.a bit like giving Hecky the managers job when he had no experience in first team affairs.we need some one who has learned his trade and can prove it not someone who speaks a good game but cant show the experience when it comes to saturday its bad enough having inexperienced 3rd and fourth tear players which all lead to 3rd or 4th tear side .(even jesus himself cant change 4th div wannabes into premier lge stars). We are never going to be Premier lge stars but luck at Huddersfield they are now secure both finnancialy and with credibility they have played the hardest season of there careers and can now enjoy a season of no pressure
