We don’t have a Craig Hignett to build it all round though.

(A player Harry Bassett actually wanted to get rid of in summer 99).

But he did brilliantly in 99/00, had the jewels sold from under him in summer 00, and then took the bullet when it amazingly went wrong when we tried to replace Hignett and Curtis with Lee Jones and Carl Regan. They then thought Nigel Spackman was a better bet, and when we had no money to replace him with anyone better, Steve Parkin. Who I felt sorry for.

We’d been relegated 18 months on from sacking Bassett. We had a strong entertaining side, who got to Wembley and might have gone on to promotion to the premier league. We sold a lot of the side off - and were relegated the season afterwards.

    Sound similar?

I would not want Grayson, think it would be a move backwards, but if he came I would get behind him like I do with all our managers/H.C.

cant see how anybody could make us move any further backwards we where the third worst team (statistically) last year

As I've said before, you can argue all you like about Grayson's style of football but you can't argue with his record.
That being said, if he was the main or only target he'd be in place by now. Doesn't mean he's off the agenda. They may have him in mind but have said there are others to interview before making a decision.
The delay does seem to suggest we have an interest in one of the play off final managers.
That DOESN'T mean that if we interview one of the play off managers and don't appoint that the eventual appointment is second, third, last choice.
You interview those who you think could do a job and make a decision when you've interviewed them all.

I cant see why interviews are the way to recruit a manager surely he proof is in the pudding .Anyone can talk a good game as we have found out to our cost over the last few years I would have thought that records stats etc are the way forward I think someone who knows about football and in particular English football should have a say in this recruitment sadly we are lacking in this area

And then do we sack him if we get promotion?

    WTF are you on about????
I’m asking a question in context to appointing Grayson as manager - Its not made as a complaint.

The impatience thread was discussing the abuse being thrown at the owners by some on here.

    Two totally different things.
Jeez - why do I need to spell these things out???

probably because some on here are so shallow and insecure that they feel the need to make up stories that they know what is happening behind the big red wall (know every business decision that is going to be made and that has been made they know to the penny how much every player earns and every personal detail about them when in reality they know nothing about anything why do they do it.....Ido know that Craig Hignett wants the vacant job LOL

:) JC we've had this argument. Anyway my point was not specific to Grayson, it was more in anticipation of the scenario where we don't appoint until after the play off finals and it turns out not to be one of the manager's involved in them. There will be the inevitable "we obviously wanted so and so but he turned us down and now we're left with third choice".
Just because we seem to be waiting for the play off finals to be over doesn't necessarily mean one of those involved is our first choice. Simply that we're interested in talking to him before making a decision.
They may, conceivably, interview, Hirst for example and decide they'd rather have Grayson anyway. At which point we can lock horns again. For what it's worth I don't think we're after Grayson.

I have to say I can’t imagine a scenario where we employ Grayson. Doesn’t fit in with the global brand young innovative forward thinking etc. Like all things if we employed him and he was successful his style of play wouldn’t matter. The trouble with that is the first wobble and people would be on his back. If we employed him unless he was a barmpot like Jose or an incompetent like Spackman or johnson he would have my support.

Yes I can fully understand why simple folk such as yourself find what I have to say problematic.

No, it’s your contradictory opinions posted on here in the space of a week. You’re either bipolar, or someone’s managed to set up an account with the same name in an attempt to make you look mental.
