One point off playoffs in Championship - and then January transfer window. A couple of decent signings in that January window and with the momentum we had then would see us top 6. And with that momentum and how the team was playing we could have won playoffs. Instead PC sold the heart of the team. And I warned back then what was likely to happen from this. Not many listened- like not many are listening now. BTW - Do you really need a good memory to remember 18 months ago - just a short time ago? Jeez !!! Some people can only remember from one plate of pie and chips to their next.
Correct, which further proves my point that he relied heavily on those players, and that was away from home - At Oakwell we didn't win for 4 months. If you look further up the thread, I actually give him credit for not chopping and changing that excellent team that he was given. Don't worry about my memory old boy. I actually attend the games unlike your self.
So you are saying in the first part of the 2016/17 season we didn’t win at home for 4 months? But at one point we were 7th in the league. And you go to matches?
I get this point but honestly, the tactics last season were so ***** and boring. Just a goal was like a tremendous achievement, or at least it felt like it. If you have players that aren’t up to it quality wise then you play percentages, get in the faces of the opposition and put pressure on in the final third. We did none of these and it was simply not good enough. He must’ve been close to the sack before Leeds foolishly took him off us.
We didn’t have the full compliment of staff. And the staff we had were new to the business and needed training up. Hecky proved himself as a manager in the second part of the 15/16 season and the first part of the 16/17 season. And I warned back in January 2017 that we would likely be having a conversation like this in the near future. But all I got back then was .... “we’ll be reyt”. Well to all those that said that back then (that’s if they can remember that far back) what’s yer thoughts now ??? IMO Hecky is a fantastic manager - who seems to have been pushed out by the new owners because he didn’t fit what they are looking for.
The only thing stranger than him going to Leeds, was getting a new contract with us first, but there may lie a story in itself.
Pushed out by offering him a new contract which he signed? A fantastic manager by having one of the worst win % over the last 18 months of any manager in the football league across 2 different clubs? I know you're lonely and get your jollies from the attention posting stuff like this gets you but fck me.
What’s staff got to do with it? If Hecky is such a fantastic manager as you say, surely he’d been okay? He picks the team and he chooses the tactics, they weren’t good enough. Hecky did well in the first half of our season in the championship but, in my opinion, to prove yourself as a manger you need to perform over a long duration than that and he hasn’t. 2017 was a terrible calendar year for him at both us and Leeds.
It did all seem a bit strange huh? My guess would be that the contract made it easier for him to go there and maybe got us a better deal? Just me guessing and not based on anything really.
Exactly that haha! Many of them didn’t even want him to begin with so with his current record, I can’t imagine he has many supporters. A low league 1 club will take him on no doubt.
I don’t know if people just jump on bandwagons & repeat the same nonsense or they just genuinely haven’t got a clue what they’re watching. This ‘didn’t change anything’ & ‘Johnson’s team’ is stupid. Just look at the teams fielded. He had to rebuild the defence in the middle of a promotion push, Bree & White got crocked & Long who’d been superb went back. Hecky converted Scowen into a full back, got Roberts playing well who hasn’t performed for Birmingham & didn’t for Johnson either & dragged George Williams out of the U23’s who Johnson deemed as not good enough & converted him into a left back. Also only had Watkins on the pitch for 20 mins at Wembley after his injury. There’s a lot of people with dodgy memories on here. And the signings, still blaming Hecky when we’ve got a clear recruitment strategy of only signing kids. He’s sat in press conferences stating what types of players we need & the next thing we buy another attacking midfielder & then he jumps ship. If people can’t do the maths & actually think he wanted many of our summer signings then you’re barmy or just wanting to discredit the bloke because he’s now ‘Leeds scum’. And what’s with this ******** from some about how Ainsworth & Hurst are no good because they aren’t names. So what? Everyone’s got to start somewhere. They could turn out to be better than Hecky for us. We aren’t exactly going to attract proven managers when it’s a head coach role & you don’t get to sign your own players. Get behind whoever gets the job.
Everything you just said is totally irrelevant, we were promoted because a once in a generation midfielder was developed in the previous regime with an affinity to a natural goalscorer. The rest of the team around that picked itself through necessity, not tactical nouse. As for not picking the signings, are you another revisionist cherry picker where the likes of McBurnie were 'Hecky's men' but conveniently the large roster of flops were brought in behind his back? I have got a good memory, that's why I can remember the depressing ***** shovelled into my eyes week after week (apparently never, ever his fault) for the last year of his tenure, which he continued at Leeds for 6 more months with a much better squad as I'm told. Buck passing sham that lad.
