Hi all. 1st time on here. Been reading for months. Had to smile when I saw this thread as Gordie is my uncle. One of the best nights of my life. Watching him score that hat trick had me buzzing inside then to meet all the players after including Aldridge and Ray Houghton was something you don't forget when your 11. God 33 years ago. Where has that gone!!!!
Welcome and that's brilliant. How is he these days? He knows my dad from years ago before he went professional. My first Reds hero btw.
That game brings back memories for me as well. I was 9 and that’s the first game I truly remember and have been hooked ever since. Gordon Owen and Clive Baker instantly became my favourite players after that. I have seen that footage on YouTube before - great to reminisce on that game.
He is doing good thanks. Lives out Huddesfield way now. Loves his golf. Says he is better at that than he ever was at football!! He got me into football big style and my love for BFC. So he did something right.
Played against Owen about 25years ago. He was playing for West Green. Called everybody "Jack" for some reason.
Saw him drinking in Monk Bretton a few times - dead down to earth. As for the game - was it a Friday night or did I imagine that. Seemed to remember Saint and Greavsie saying it was a great hatrick the day after
I was sitting in the west stand with my Dad. I just remember as the looping cross came over for Owen's third, loads of people pounding their feet on the wooden floors in anticipation, like a drum roll, before the ball arched back into net. Magical moment when I was 15.
