‘Fans’ - refusing to back the new manager/head coach, who hasn’t even been announced. Proper flounce. Say what you like about ‘experience of this level’ or ‘a good cv’ - but you’d have backed bobby hassell or someone like Paul chuffing Scholes. For some - and I stress some, not all - you dont have to scratch very deep to see what their real problem is. Give the fella a chance - only you won’t because he’s German. Welcome to Barnsley Daniel, 68% of the folk here wanted out of Europe and two years later, in the face of all the evidence showing that the reasons they were given to do so by the Brexit campaign were either lies or unrealistic exaggerations, still think they’re right after being convinced by the right wing that they are. Could be worse, you could be Polish... There’s a lot of hypocrites on here, expecting their football club to be forward thinking when they themselves essentially live in the 1970’s. Not all Brexit supporters are xenophobes. Not all Barnsley fans whinging about Daniel Stendel have an issue with his nationality. But it’s clear there are some. Get over yourselves. Is it a left field appointment? Yes. Would he have been my choice? Probably not, wasn’t in the interviews but still, let’s say no. Will he be successful? No idea. But if as it seems he’s the man appointed, can’t we just get behind him? What will chucking the toys out the pram achieve exactly?
What a loada ******** ! You actually think folk don’t want him because he’s German ? You need to give your head a shake . I had my own preference but I’m also happy that it seems we at Kathy have a new head coach we can get behind !
What the **** has Brexit got to do with Stendel's appointment? Jesus wept. You say yourself that he would not be your choice. Surely that's just what others are saying?
Exactly. Don't get me wrong I'm not anti anybody foreign taking over, I'm firmly in the - "let's give him a chance", and that would have been the case for whoever it is.
Well I took away exactly the same message. If that’s not what he meant, maybe the writing is an issue, not the reading.
I’ll shake my head as much as you like, it still won’t convince me that the fact he is German isnt the issue to some. To you? Clearly not. Not to all. But I think it’s you who needs to give the old noggin a shake if you think there are no reds fans of that thought, some of which hiding behind thinly veiled explanations to the contrary. I live in donny, not Barnsley, but it’s clear that in both towns there is a growing voice of intolerance, it is of concern to me. And as for the Brexit comparison, of course there is no direct link, but my opinion is that the dissenting voices on Stendel, the ones moaning we should have gone for English experience, will have a lot of correlation with those who were and are hardline in favour of Brexit. Of course there will be exceptions to that and there are many genuine reasons why we wouldn’t be that happy with the appointment - I’m hardly deliriously happy myself. The post wasn’t aimed at all those who are questioning the appointment, but those who are kicking off, especially the ones who have stated they won’t support him or the club anymore.
Read some of the other threads Wiggy. There’s a few who’ve said words to the effect - one poster said he won’t back the new manager or the board, one poster said the club are getting no more of his money, one or two others similar. I’ve no issue with folk being underwhelmed and disappointed maybe, but not supporting the club at all off the back of it? Come on.
Seems a very small minority. Out of all the foreign possibilities the Germans at least represent the best chance of youth development, good football and a strong grasp of the English language. The issue with foreign managers on my behalf is absolutely not xenophobia and I was part of your 32% I simply feel British managers provide the best chance of a swift return to the championship. As stated above however in comparison to Grant, going German is like moving from Robin Reliant to Audi.
Perhaps I’m being naive, but I would be very surprised if even a small minority of fans were opposed to Stendel purely because he is German. Lack of experience generally, and total lack of experience in the English lower leagues is a legitimate concern. I hope he at least proves to be a better tactician and motivator than Morais.
Let’s get one thing straight lad, I have no problem with the man being German so stop trying to grandstand as if you’re some moral voice of reason for (nonexistent) xenophobia. My opinion is due to the fact he’s an inexperienced manager of 28 or so games and has no experience of the English game which is tough especially in the lower leagues and also the fact that he’s yet another cheap unknown or massive risk as some have said. So now where did I expressly say I rejected him because he’s German eh?
I wouldn’t have chosen Stendel. Mainly as I hadn’t heard of him. But I don’t work in football professionally, on a full time basis. I’ve never interviewed anyone for a head coach position. He might be absolute cak but let’s just get behind him, whether you wanted him or not we appear to have him
I didnt say you had - I think we are confusing two issues. I was responding to the fact Troff was highlighting already some of our fans were flouncing off and not backing the manager already - he then went on to say that for "some" it was because he was German I was picking up on the not backing him already part - which clearly you dont. Neither does Spider and a few others I wasnt intentionally accusing you of Xenophobia, just of already writing off the new head coach.
Thanks for clearing that up. After the Morais debacle, you would have thought that the board would have learnt but they’ve gone and done the exact same thing by getting an unknown and again, taking a stupidly massive risk. Morais has been nothing short of a journeyman and has a decent amount of games to his name so you can forgive the board for thinking he might be a good addition but this guy has about 30 games on his CV and is basically a novice. What’s also worrying is it took four weeks of silence (after Ganaye’s “we will get it right” promo at Derby) to come out with quite possibly the most underwhelming appointment we could have asked for. This board so far fills me with the same confidence as I’d feel if Fred West was babysitting my kids which is obviously none and Ganaye is a massive part of the problem from what I can see with the highly questionable decisions and poor leadership so far. His head is on the chopping block this time that’s for sure.
