Safe standing areas

I see no reason why not TBH. If it gets the go ahead I wonder if we would back it., and where we would put it

I would go there too and maybe the area in the corner where the floodlight is. But if they sold season tickets for it then would they allocate the individual standing place too... that for me would be daft.

 

I dont understand this safe standing, it looks **** and nothing like the old standing. How can it make a better atmosphere? No different to standing up in our current stand.

 

It’s the only way they were gonna get it past the government, they can’t just have the old terraces back it’d never get through

 

I agree. I always thought part of the attraction of standing was that you could move freely. It's not going to be the same as it was. It'll be compromise.

 

of course its a compromise. But a safe option. People standing up in present seats in any ground are at danger of falling as the seat back in front of them is no more than knee high. The new design is individual standing place with a barrier that prevents them falling or any crushing , as was the case at Hillsboro. The individual area also has a tilt down seat if needed... like at half time perhaps. Its decent idea, but as you say will not be like the old days... but that will never return , unless you go and watch conference league.

 

So how does standing in a restrictive space surrounded by bars and a fold away seat improve the atmosphere? Man utd stand up at all away games and generate a brilliant atmosphere.

Waste of money and time if you ask me.

 

Looking at the home ends at some of the Bundesliga games, I think safe standing can clearly help create an unbelievable atmosphere.

 

Standing up in a seated area isn't unsafe. I've never come close to falling over the row of seats in front of me...or seen anyone else do so for that matter.

 

Dortmund would have that atmosphere in any stand though.

 

I've been going to football matches since 1978, and very rarely felt in danger when standing.

It's all about being sensible with the numbers. If you allow too many people into an enclosure then you're asking for problems.

I'm all for areas with crash barriers like Burton, Brentford and many lower league clubs as well, but if it's going to be fecked about with so you're penned into your row then it's a no from me.

I won't be standing up if I have a choice. I like comfort, but I'm hoping that creating standing areas will do away with the arguments between those standing and those behind them that can't see the game.

 

I'm talking about safety. It's wrong to use safety as a justification for their introduction.

 

This topic was discussed on TV last week. A spokesperson for the Hiisborough 96
said they were disappointed that they had not been involved in any consultation, which
in their view was an insult towards the 96 Liverpool fans who died at Hillsborough and said
that with the impending trial of the SY Police officers yet to begin, it was insensitive in the extreme.
From what I could gather from the interview , as a group, they at least look to be gearing up to oppose
any plans to introduce safe standing at Football grounds at any time in the future.

No it isn't. It's being mooted because some people want to stand in areas where others want to sit.

 

And it must be safe!! it’s simple to understand surely?

If we made the West stand lower in to a safe stand area how many more would go in and how much better would that generate a better atmosphere. I don't think it would make a bit of difference and all the stand uppers would return to their seats after a few games of the novelty wearing off. I think some of the young ones may go in if the tickets are loads cheaper.

 

That's not the point he's making. Grounds these days are perfectly safe. The idea is being mooted because some sections of fans would like to be able to stand. They are marketing this idea as "safe standing". It's not due to safety reasons at all as grounds are already safe right now! It's because people want to stand again and previously this has been denied due to safety concerns.
