Speaks about how we recruit players, why we went with Stendel, Adam Hammill and more. Great interview. Don't know what more folk can expect of him now. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p069rvt7
I'm a big fan of GG, one of the most difficult periods in Barnsley history and he has handled everything with professionalism and class.
#Barnsleyfc GG on Adam Hammill: "In League one there were no contract clauses on either side. You know the policy of the commitment of the board to youth. Adam doesn't fit that policy. I think Adam was ready for a new challenge."
#Barnsleyfc GG: "The nationality was definitely not a criteria for us. So, yes, we've had discussions with young English managers, but very few english managers can play this style (high pressing) of football at the momment. Maybe that will change." #BArnsleyfc GG: "We wanted to take our time. First off all we wanted a style play to match the club and the town. "I would say we interviewed 5 (candiates)." #barnsleyfc GG: "I think he (Stendl) will be very demanding fitness wise. I hope the players are enjoying their holiday's at the momment. It's gonna be a big change." #Barnsleyfc GG on Adam Hammill: "In League one there were no contract clauses on either side. You know the policy of the commitment of the board to youth. Adam doesn't fit that policy. I think Adam was ready for a new challenge." In the interview posted with #Barnsleyfc GG earlier, he speaks at length about how the recruitment policy works and where they are at this summer. "The recruitment team has been working for a month on players who will fit the style of play. We call them the 'Stendl player'. After the failure in appointing Jose Morais, is GG under pressure to get this one right. #Barnsleyfc GG: "We are always under pressure. So not particularly." think thats all of it for those not on twitter.
Cheers. Absolute disgrace and proves that we refuse to deviate from the plan which sent us down. Zero faith in the decision makers at oakwell at the minute
Very much reads as he has no re-sale value so we are not willing to put more money into him. Of course some may say this is a pragmatic approach, but for me he could have been the talisman to lead us back up. Sad we dint even try to do a deal, could have coped with he has better offers.
Some serious spin in there. Fairly sure our pressing was excellent under LJ and Hecky when given the right personnel.
He did also say that Hammill was looking at a new adventure overseas and was welcome back at any time to get involved with youth coaching...
Because our plan doesn't give a flying **** about league position All it cares about is making a quick quid from young kids. Soul destroying really
I don't believe for a minute there wasn't an English-based coach who could have come in to implement a pressing style. Johnson eventually got us doing it. Hecky did exceptionally successfully. What do these blokes do in their coaching badges if they don't study different styles of play and how to set a team up like that? I hope a 'Stendl player' involves some midfielders who can cover ground and win the ball back. And some leaders. Ganaye's quotes re. Hammill are very disappointing and suggest the club's decision makers are further removed from what the supporters want to see than they seem to think.
Can I suggest that all of you who have questions actually listen to the interview? The tone of it from my point of view was completely different from the impression some people seem to have picked up, and there's a lot more detail than quoted here, particularly about the workings of the recruitment policy. The HC has a fair amount of input into the process.
When people who have no passion for the game and treat football as a business like the people we have in now and is going to run the club as an academy, just to improve players and sell on then that's ok. No
