It was never offered, Winnall & Hourihane were offered the extensions in November time when teams had already started circling. No contract talks were attempted in the summer when their contracts had 1 year to go.
If we had offered him a contract in the summer he would of still gone to villa as soon as his agent got a sniff of what villa were prepared to pay him ect. We would have just got a bigger fee than the alleged 3million. Where do you get that he is on 10k a week our in the know poster "redarmychris" said he wasn't at the time.
Could have kept him no doubt we only sold because we were afraid to lose him for nothing in the following window
Because The German has been such a failure so far in the job hasn't he ? In his first season of being head coach he took his team to the verge of promotion to the top tier of German football (2 Bundesliga is one of the most competitive leagues in football !) then was harshly removed from his post. The team he had built then got promoted....hardly a failure
Would it have made you happy if we had kept him 6 months longer than lost him for nowt? No money no sell on? I do think he told Patrick he wanted to leave when he heard villa were interested.
I've spent 10 minutes reading that: - A squad which got relegated on the last day of the season by one goal is now going to struggle in the league below and that the majority of the squad isnt good enough. - That we missed out on Simon Grayson. - That Hourihane would have signed and stayed at Barnsley for 10K a week, when Villa were offering him 30K. - That we should have kept Watkins. A player who's contract had expired. - That doing some coaching badges qualifies you to know the score infinitely better than the owners of a football club. - Something about common sense not selling assets for peanuts when they're valueless in a few months time. - Something about heading for the championship play offs half way through a season and that we were guaranteed promotion based on being sat 7th. - That we need someone like Rory Delap. - That being a full wit is better than being a half wit. - This is all paired with saying we should sign Akinfenwa. And you wonder why people think you're a troll...
Where is the common sense in starting random threads to start arguments and then being like a dog with a bone with everyone that disagrees with you? Doesn't common sense tell you that if your posts are so unpopular with so many that you might be totally wrong.
It's not about ambition. These players wanted to leave. Why can't you see that? We almost went bust once because we threw money at players.
I wish I’d have read this before I wasted 10 minutes of my dinner break catching up on the thread, good summary! Absolutely barmy if all this isn’t a windup.
1. The squad was lucky that Bolton were so terrible too 2. Grayson would have been the best option absolutely no doubt 3. No Conor would have signed in the summer after we were promoted even said so himself 4. Again Watkins should have been under contract and after been offered much better terms 5. Owning a football club doesn't mean you are not incompetent 6. Being sat in 7th you'd think we'd try for playoffs, didn't see Fulham selling off Sessegnon in January 7. Of course we need a long thrower it is a great way of getting the ball in the box and Delap is a footballing legend
