The input Stendel has is the TYPE of player he wants. The recruitment team then crunch the numbers, find players to fit and present him with a short list. He doesn't scout, identify, negotiate etc.
Don't think for a minute I'm defending OnGoingCloudCuckooLand, because I'm not. But Ganaye did say this: "The last months of the season we had been working on the two different scenarios between League One and the Championship, we were all hoping we would use the Championship one but unfortunately it was League One. But, we were prepared for this and we had a list of different player targets for each division we may have been in, we were prepared." Here: https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2018/june/gg-interview/ It says 'we had a list of different player targets for each division' The current manager wasn't in our employ at that time. So Stendel can't be identifying the targets can he? It's whoever Ganyae is referring to when he says 'we'. Maybe Stendel has the chance to say yes or no to these players, I don't know, that isn't referred to, but doing so isn't really bringing in the players he wants is it? Doesn't seem like that to me. I know we've done this to death, but what our CEO has said there seems to have been ignored.
I was talking about the interview where he explained the general process, Jay. Where he said the coach is involved in identifying the criteria for the positions we need to fill. Granted Stendel can't have been involved in the process in place last season.
