That time of year again, car insurance renewal month. Can anyone recommend any companies that seem to offer a fair price!? Received my renewal offer and the monthly price has doubled!? No explanation, even when you ring them, they can't tell you why. It appears it's a market trend..by the way it was the robbing dogs Hastings that have kindly offered me a renewal price double of what I'm paying. There's nothing that boils my blood more than car insurance I tell you that.
I'm with LV. It's been pretty stable for the past 6 years, even with a couple of non-fault claims. There are cheaper companies out there, but cant be arsed to switch every year.
Another here with Hastings....went up £20 this year and were still cheapest for me on comparison sites.
Try using a cashback site like Topcashback I got £60 cashback this year from my car insurance. They also have a comparison bit where it searches for the cheapest and shows the cashback you could get.
Agree mate. Use Direct line missen Always competitive. Great service. Put my lad on it when he comes up fromt smoke. At Xmas etc. Costs about £1:50 (yes) for 2weeks. Allowed 2/3 times a year. ( would cost me £70 to put him on for year) they don't join comparison sites. But noticed they were on TopCashback the other day. 10% discount.
By the way got my renewal for contents and buildings. Went up dramatically. Wit Halifax. Used to be pretty competitive and not worth the hassle of changing. Used comparison site and went with second cheapest quote. But offered £50 cash back after some months. (Received) With, you've guessed it. Halifax. Saved £150.
I second going through a cashback site such as Quidco etc. if you do actually switch. Also, a lot of companies will match competitor’s quotes. I’ve used Admiral for 9 years which is the only one I’ve ever been with but I get quotes from other companies every year and ask them to match it. They’re really good about it actually, takes about 10 mins and they never try to argue or hassle.
I go through Confused.com every year to get the cheapest price. I have no loyalty whatsoever with insurance companies. They treat you ok for your first year as a new customer then bang up the price afterwards.
Hi. First post but been reading for a while. My renewal with Hastings came the other day. From £78 a month up to £95. Went on confused.com and same company with same cover was £36. Rang them and got it for £30 a month. Nothing short of robbery when you just let it renew automatically.
£78/£95 a month?! What do you drive or are you young or had a lot of accidents? Renewing automatically is terrible I agree. I was only yesterday advising a colleague to get a quote and phone up hers as she’s never haggled in the 20 years she’s been driving. I’d accidentally let mine renew so I phoned up within the 14 day grace period and got £98.49 refunded to match the cheapest quote. I pay mine annually though and it comes with the top level of breakdown cover. Oh and welcome btw!
If you click onto Confused through a cashback site too before buying you can get £30-£80 cashback on top depending on how much your insurance is.
I’m with Hastings for the other half’s car. Goes up every year. But always cheaper on the price comparison website. I just ring them and haggle it down to the cheaper online quote.
I’m with Admiral. They sent my renewal email through, about £50 more than what I’d paid for the previous year. I phoned them and made up a quote from another provider at about £250 less, and they matched it instantly. Just goes to show how much they try to overcharge in the first place.
I absolutely hate that they put prices up for no reason but Admiral are amazing at price matching with no haggling involved. Phone is always answered immediately (I’ve never been in a queue or put on hold in 9 years) and the person is always really friendly.
Just sorted mine this morning. I spent 30 minutes on the phone to Admiral and told them I didn't want to renew as Liverpool Victoria was £400 cheaper - pretty annoying when I've never made a claim with them. He went through the whole renewal and it was still coming out £250 more than LV. I've worked in the insurance sector, so know how tough it must be for the retention teams. I was pretty shocked however, when he said 'you have to appreciate you've been with us three years, so it's going to be more'...... sorry what? 'Is this on an auto renewal?' 'No' 'Ok thanks for your time'
