For both/either, which areas are good to stay in to be close to the main attractions/centre? Actual hotel recommendations welcome if you have any! Thanks!
We are staying at Hotel Mediodia in Madrid in October. Madrid is a beautiful city. Never been to Lisbon, although I am told it is lovely.
Went to Lisbon for the day while on a cruise and found it It to be a complete **** hole Madrid on the other hand is a fantastic place
Been to Lisbon 3 times! Fantastic place mate! Just keep near the old town and you’ll be fine! The train sentral is miles away from where you want to be! Try and take in the 8 heights while you’re there! Enjoy, it’s fantastic
A more than useful forum to use i find is tripadvisor. If you go onto the lisbon and madrid forums you will receive many replies from people with great experience of these two cities (and from those that live there).
I took the family for a long weekend in Madrid last year and we loved it, it's a beautiful city with lots to see and do. We stayed at the Intur Palacio San Martin. The bedroom photo on the homepage is exactly what our room was like. The location was good, near to the city centre but not noisy, the room was spotless and the staff were very helpful. We were room only so I can't comment on food but otherwise I'd recommend it.
Lisbon is a lovely city, spent some time there a few years ago. Would recommend a visit to Belem to see the tower and Jeronimos monastery if you have the chance. Been a while so cant remember any particular restaurant's to recommend but if you like seafood you're in for a treat. Make sure to have some Natas too, basically a warm Portuguese egg custard. Can't get enough of them!
