    Oh, that's rubbish! At least you can switch through a cashback site now and save money on top of if they'd just matched the quote. I only sorted mine about a week and a half ago and they just matched it no bother. My renewal was just under £100 more than the cheapest quote I got so they maybe had more scope to be allowed to approve that. Not sure why you being with them 3 years means it should be more, they always go on to me about how they don't want to lose me because I've been with them so long.

    To be fair in previous years they'd been pretty good and pretty much matched it. Had it been within £100 difference I'd have just stayed.

    Charging £400 more than a competitor does make me think they just charge what they think they can get away with. If 70% auto renew then I guess it just makes business sense.

    Trouble with the direct companies is that if their current claims ratio isn't the best then they have to increase premiums. If your circumstances change, points, occupation, postcode etc then you may fall out of their underwriting criteria. Other than that theres no excuse for an increase.other than the three times increase in the last 12months of IPT (insurance premium tax) that the government set.
