I travel to europe regularly, healthcare will be covered on your travel insurance much in the same way as it is now because you cant just walk into other european hospitals and get treated for free like you can here, mobile data roaming charges, now heres the champion of the remain argument ffs,i've traveled to goa in india countless times and my roaming charges are exactly the same as when i go to france and even if they did scrap the current system it wouldnt be long before mobile companies we grovelling for your trade by offereng discount for eu bound travellers.Border delays??? not sure where you are coming from with this because i cant see the different frontiers in europe putting controls in specifically for the british, after all they cant even keep tabs on jihadis let alone me,which leaves us with our own borders and only last week i boarded a ferry in calais and my passport(along with our lasses and our three dogs passports) were checked like they always have been so i see very little changing, unless they get more stricter which i'm all for because watching the french cops playing hide n seek with a couple of hundred young african lads is beyond a joke and is solely down to the eu's inability to maintain its borders. On another note,we travel a couple of times every year to various parts of europe which in the main are well away from the tourist hot spots and the general feeling i get after speaking with different french, italians, spaniards etc is that they are as equally split over the eu as what we are,the only country that i feel really supports it hands down is germany and possibly belgium.
Companies will pass on costs they incur and some will use opportunity to push up price. Free mobile use in the EU will end as we wont be in the Eu anymore. Travel insurance will obviously rise too, as free EU healthcare will no longer be available. And of course there will be more stringent checks and longer queues, probably most likely coming back to the UK, despite the automatic barriers they have now. That's the very tip of the iceberg. But the noseless seem abound.
Must have been dreaming when I've walked into French hospitals on three occasions and was treated free of charge on production of the EHIC card. With the right provider and contract you'll find you can get free roaming and data in the EU, with extra costs only when you leave the EU. Border delays - then compare the time trying to enter Andorra (non EU) with those within the EU and the airport delays will be there when you are queuing to pass through the non-EU passport holders kiosk rather than those for EU passport holders.
Not been on here much for a few days so only just seen this thread. Ive always been a remain supporter as I think the positives of being an EU member outweigh the negatives and I actually think that all 4 freedoms are good for everyone. That said I can see that there were some valid arguments for some form of leave if immigration or too much control in the hands of Europe was a prime concern, and it would have been possible to leave in a way that didn't cause too much damage to the economy, however its hard to see how the government and opposition could have made a greater f*ck up than we now face. The fundamental problem is that A50 was triggered with no clear plan about what sort of Brexit we were aiming for. and a total lack of understanding by many leave MPs and commentators about what was and was not possible and the consequnces of setting various red lines. Now I can only see three possible outcomes. Some botched compromise - most likely, but this will be a solution almost no one will like No deal crash out - risk of this is increasing and this would be a disaster - its also something the leave campaigners told us would never happen as deals with the EU would be easy Abandon the whole thing - I think unfortunately this wont happen even though its almost certainly the best solution for the country and probably has around half the population supporting it
Wait while exporters see the paperwork they will need to complete to export anything to the EU. Non-EU countries was particularly onerous before and everything had to be typed in triplicate with no spelling errors, and this could yet be the same for the EU. It will do wonders for the export costs when adding hours of man-labour to each batch.
Been to the USA several times and data roaming has always been included in my mobile tariff. Travel Insurance is covered by my bank (no extra charge). Last year cleared USA immigration, fingerprints & photo, collected luggage, bag dropped and was sat on a connecting flight within 54 minutes. From the internal arrivals (Orlando) it was just like getting off a bus. Was sat at the hotel bar within an hour of landing. Earlier this year I flew into Grenoble airport in France. Took an hour and half to clear immigration and collect luggage. Was the same coming back into the UK. In fact the queue for non-EU passport checks were being cleared in half the time the EU queues were. The only other difference was which coloured exit door you walked through. Both end up on the same corridor to leave the airport.
Visited Dublin 6 times in late 2016 and never took longer than 20 minutes to get from leaving the plane to leaving the airport. Same as Manchester/Liverpool on return. France has reintroduced stronger border controls after the terrorist attacks over the last few years, so is probably a bad example for a comparison.
free mobile use, where exactly do you get that? or do you mean no extra charges when using your phone abroad? which is available now for countries much further afield than the eu,my travel insurance (i get annual eu cover) fell by less than 20 quid after i stopped getting worldwide cover, stringent checks??? you would really be against these? considering the amount of illegals we have allowed to basically walk free into this country?,..but like i said these are in place now,we we asked to get out of our motorhome while the french port police went in with the sniffer dog to check around,i stood and watched and the dog was actually checking for stowaways,so i'm not sure what more they can do and i really doubt that they'll make things much harder as it will inconvenience those europeans travelling this way as much as it will anyone else, they simply cannot check every vehicle and to be fair not much changed after the borderless carry on came into place anywayand certainly after certain individuals started trying to blow us all up.
Non EU countries you have a daily cost for use, EU countries you ca use your existing data and allowances free. Try the Baltics, fantastic countries. Unlike many, I've no issue with migration. Personally, I'd do shengen. I might even join the Euro. And i'd favour EU citizens for work because they work harder and get more done. Probably why they are feared. For showing up how lazy many of our "hard working" people are.
i've been through andorra dozens of times and only twice has the que been more than about 15 minutes with one of the times being nearly a hour and that was after the paris terror attack if i remember rightly...Andorra is a tax haven as you are probably well aware and the checks are more stringent to stop french and spanish residents taking advantage of it,at least thats what i was told which probably stacks up because when we've gone through on the motorbike they just wave us on,knowing full well that we cant possibly be stacked up with duty free goods. the eu health card is contraversal because it isnt a substitution for travel insurance and it all depends on which eu country you are visting as to what it will or will not provide, not all eu countries will give you free treatment because you carry it... i personally think that it will still be in place after brexit because the eu will want their citizens looked after when the come here..having said that i am not bothered either way because we always make sure we have travel insurance anyway and as far as i know the government has always told eu bound holiday makers to make sure they do indeed have adequate travel insurance that cover medical treatment
That’s terrible, Employers using Other EU citizens and non EU workers solely for purposes of undercutting working standards and pay of UK people and then accusing UK workers as lazy. Boris and co, must be so proud of you.
data roaming and charges are all down to which provider you are with, try goa, that too is fantastic and you can indeed use your phone at no extra charge to your std package. if you've no problem with immigration then thats up to you but i have,i am not happy about people entering this country without passports,i'd cards etc etc.
Yeah, but that's not immigration though... Illegal immigrants (which is what youre talking about) will still try to get in this country whether we're in the EU or not, also the vast majority of illegal immigrants come from non EU countries anyway, so they will be handled in exactly the same fashion as they are right now.
Why is it undercutting working standards? Pay you could potentially have an argument with, except that all workers should be paid at least the minimum wage. Its not like employers are busing in Bulgarians to work for £1 per hour. They have to pay them the same as the locals get. Whether that is forcing wages down to the minimum wage level is a separate argument, as is whether the minimum wage should be higher. When I went to Goa, I was told that it was Verboten to the Germans. Apparently the first flight landed, didn't have the correct paperwork and they were all sent back home and since then its been off the list for German visitors.
Market forces. I've never had a good british trades person yet. Has nothing to do with price. I happily pay more to my Spanish window cleaner, my Albanian heating engineer, the Syrian period cornicing expert and the Czech carpenter who have all done fabulous jobs, not tried to cut corners, not had dozens of tea breaks and always left courteously with dozens of referrals over time. Sadly the same can't be said about the English window fitter, the English decorator (worst experience of my life) and the English window cleaner. Just some of the recent experiences. If you travel thousands of miles for yourself, for your family and for your life.... funny that they tend to give way more than those who don't want or need it so much. What I do have issue with are companies who prey on illegal migrants purprosely trafficked who stand in the wee hours of the morning waiting to be picked up for cash in hand work that is way below minimum wage. I'm sure there are some good uk workers out there in the trades and low skill economy... but they hide very very well.
