Its an out of date argument peddled by the daily hatred and what a certain genre of our society who isn't open minded has swallowed hook like and Brexit. It goes right back to the days of dartington crystal when they shipped in foreign workers and the locals bellyached they stole their jobs and women. That mindset is still prevalent. Hopefully as those generations return to the earth, future generations aren't as protectionist and hate filled.

But it’s obviously not EU nationals doing that as they’re legally allowed to come here, so how is leaving the EU going to prevent what you describe?

Given that you employed tradesmen from non Eu countries I trust you checked they had the relevant sign offs to work in the Uk?

Given that if they didnt have the correct paperwork then technically he could face prosecution...

Becomes an expensive boiler service then.

Well I'm guessing that is the case with anyone that's not registered on the Gas Safe Register.

UK engineers and foreign nationals alike.

That's the sort of accreditation I'd be looking for in my gas engineer.

No more than other "brits" who own their own businesses, limited companies too, and have shop fronts that have been around decades.

I'll never understand the irrational inherent fear and hatred of "foreigners" so many on our little isle have. Every day I consider myself eternally thankful.

Its really great when you consider the percentage of the population with immigrant roots. Probably over 99%, UK-wide.

You couldn't make it up, could you? I just wish the EU would hurry up and invade with the help of those 80m turks they promised were coming. Then we'll know they were right to be afraid all along.

With the EU army? That our teenagers were conscripted to join? :)

Personally, I'm kind of hoping for a military coup.

Shame we can't see how the leave/ remain vote was broken down in much more granular detail, by profession would be very interesting.

I work in IT, and I know for definite of two Leave voters. Compared to at least 50+ Remain voters and 1 who didn't (me due to working away). Not in any way definitive though.

Hopefully the negotiations will be put to the people before being passed in the commons,as a good democracy should

I'll forever remember the weekend after. Was down Bermondsey beer mile and all you could hear were Londoners (and a few visitors) trying to fathom out just what world they'd found themselves in. Struck me at the time that in that part of South London, there was probably a sizeable leave vote, but everone we bumped into that weekend was just in shock at the rest of the countries view.

Would be interesting what happens should a hard Brexit occur. Not sure what would trigger a republic, but there would be a large majority here who wouldn't identify with the rest of the country and could see an even wider divide emerging than what we currently have.

Obviously the Brextremists won't want that, to them democracy is when you get a result with a slender majority in your favour derived from lying and fraud and aren't held to account once facts start to materialise.

But yes. I'd concur. If you trust the people to start with, you have to trust them to finish it.

And what is anti British? The fabulous Syrian period mouldings guy is a British national and been in Mitcham for over a decade. The Czech guy is married to a Brit and runs his own company with a 7 year old son born in England. The Albanian came to this country as a young lad with his family and has forged a successful business for himself by outperforming his peers and working far harder than any other tradesperson i've ever witnessed.

But what is British? If its a country half full of fearful people who talk about "foreigners" behind their backs and visit Britain on spain every year, who have all white friends, and turn their heads at the first sign of "colour", who have inherent biases to their misconceived idea of britishness, and turn their nose up at "foreign" food labelling it as muck… then too bloody right i'm anti british, and proud of it.

What I don't recognise is why people should think Britain has a god given right to be better than anywhere else, its not. It's far from it. It's an island. A lump of rock moving around the globe slowly and in millions of years (if the planet is still here and mankind hasn't eaten itself) will be stuck on some other lump of rock. That you or I are on it is down to an egg and some sperm and some luck.

So if you want to outline what British and Anti British in your realm, and why they are good, bad or indifferent, please do enlighten us all.
