Picking up a used van tomorrow so have been looking around for insurance quotes in readiness.

I got a few decent quotes via the comparison sites, cheapest being £320ish, then I remembered I had got a bit of cash back on my car insurance via quidco and Tesco insurance.

This time quidco and aviva were offering £60 cashback if I bought a policy with them. This sounded really good until I got their quote of over £750 for the year!!!

How can they be so far out when I've entered exactly the same details into the comparison sites? Makes you wonder if some people are so kinky for the cashback that they overlook the price of the product.

I tend to go to Quidco and then click on Confused.com (paying £30 atm I think) and look who the cheapest quote is on that. So let's say it's Aviva for arguments sake. I then search for Aviva on Quidco and if they are offering more than the £30 Confused is then I click on that, otherwise I buy it through the Confused link.

Took my car insurance out with aviva this year. £188 fully comp, went via topcashback and got £60 cash back.

You are better off seeing who all the different comparison sites (Go Compare, Confused.com, Compare the Market etc) are saying is their cheapest and then get a quote from them directly. All the comparison sites are taking a cut. Quidco hasn't been the cheapest for the last 5 years for me.

That just goes to show how mad it is. I've full no claims, clean licence, etc.

Commercial vehicle insurance does tend to be a bit more expensive than private though to be fair.

Oh I will do mate. I'm not really asking for advice, just highlighting what robbers some of the companies are.

Managed £295 and £26 cashback to come off that. Big difference.

A little tip as well. Legal insurance can be bought separately and will save you around £20 quid against adding it with the car insurer.
