we have brought in some young high rated talent, we have stood firm and kept a very good squad together. We can still take on loans if its deemed needed. Yup I think its been a good Transfer window this time around.

The transfer window isn't really over until 31st August. If a club want one of our players and offer enough, they'll just loan him until January and complete the permanent signing then, but with the deal agreed in August. That's why there's been relatively little activity today, the window shutting is almost meaningless.

So are you saying that it didn't slam shut today? Just creaked a little towards the shut position?

I'm not sure it was even that dramatic. It's still wide open with the curtains billowing.

Having said that, I'm not even sure any club is all that interested in any of our remaining players. Yiadom's signed for Reading, Hammill's contract hasn't been renewed, McBurnie and Gardner returned to their parent clubs, Knasmullner, Mallan, McCarthy and Pearson have all been sold, and we've replaced them with one 18 year old who has gone straight back out on loan, another with 9 league games experience in a relegated side under his belt, and just one player with any sort of experience. But leak some rumours that we've turned down some bids for our players and apparently this is the best transfer window we've ever had with folk doing outside loops because we've kept the squad together.

    Cynical, moi?

I guess the proof will be in the pudding. By November or December it should be clear as to whether keeping the current squad together was really such a master stroke. Bearing in mind the youth of the players and the obvious chasm between League 1 and the Championship, I'd say that on balance of probability it will serve us well. Let's see.

I agree. It is a refreshing 'sea-change' in philosophy which has kept the key players of the squad at the club for this crucial season. For once, we aren't looking over our shoulders and scouring the headlines to see which unsettled player is next out of Oakwell. We've done well to keep Bradshaw here and motivated for the drive back to the Championship - likewise Potts and Lindsay. We have also replaced before selling in the case of McCarthy/Williams. This all looks as though the squad is both settled and motivated for the coming season. Maybe there is an incentive on offer for promotion, but good on the owners if so and if it is enough to keep the squad and the morale. Onwards and (back) upwards.

Good job the transfer windows not really shut then. We’ll need a few more signings to avoid that bottom half finish.

So £10 and a box of woodbines more than you? Up the apples and pears, I was at Violet's funeral etc.
