Do they really hate us? One Rotherham fan on twitter says we have egg on our faces for signing Moore and expecting him to fire us to safety. Some of them were bitter when we signed Bradshaw from under their noses, and now it's Moore and how we "splashed the cash". Now surely it's not our problem if they couldn't afford to match what we offered? We're hardly big hitters in the transfer market. I don't really know any Rotherham fans so can only go by what they say online, but they do come across as a bit resentful of us, as have Donny fans at times.
There was some rivalry last 70's/ early 80's with us both being on the up. Think recent hostilities possibly linked to our two up front who were at Rotherham / could have joined them
Keyboard warriors . Never had a problem with any fan of any Yorkshire club to be honest . I'm quite happy to talk rovrum, Wendy's, Leeds , donny etc so I guess I get reciprocal behaviour.
I know quite a few Rotherham supporters, well all three of them! Each have made points to me that they don’t hate us, only the Sheffield clubs and Leeds. They were surprised last season as Doncaster appeared to hate them, but they didn’t hold the same inclination. I guess there may be some hoping that Moore doesn’t do well, as we got him from them... and then he didn’t go back. But overall their idea of us is that we are local rivals and have friendly competition. There will always be a minority who hate everyone on both sides.
I think Doncaster fans are just desperately seeking some attention by inventing rivalries, us, Rotherham, Scunthorpe but nobody takes them seriously for it
Donny fans have a serious obsession with us, 'The Pitmans Derby' apparently.... I've never heard it before either
I've always thought the Barnsley-Rotherham-Doncaster triangle was a tame, friendly rivalry really, dependent on divisional standing to really get anything above 'banter' and competitive arguments. We had a spell with Donny where it got a little nasty and the younger lads seem to have a decent rivalry with their younger fans, but Rotherham have always been the friendly rivals to me. I suppose with Rotherham, recently we've kind of jumped around each other in the lower reaches of the Championship and top of League One, swapping places and both being on the up or down at opposite times. We've been in the market for similar players and I guess that breeds a little resentment. I think we're a better team than them even if we are a division below and our potential is a lot larger in my opinion. But I like Rotherham and hold no bad feeling towards them at all.
Donny /Rotherham have always hated each other. Over the years, they have mostly shared a similar league standing.
For the majority of the last 30 odd years we've come across Weds & Utd more than those two, probably why don't give a ***** about Rotherham or Donny.
Well I don't think there are that many on here older than me and I have never heard of the Pitmans Derby
Correct. We've only been in same division as Rotherham twice in 35years and there was a break of around 26 years between us playing Donny in the league.
I never give Rotherham a second thought, not because of any hatred or rivalry, they just don't enter my head. Donny, on the other hand, I see as a little brother or sister and always wish them well (unless we are playing them). It probably has something to do with going to Donny Dome quite a few times as a kid but I have no connection to Rotherham at all so I have no interest in them.
I have a number of good friends who are Rotherham fans & none of them dislike us, in fact they want us to do well (unless at their expense) - none of them like Sheffield Wednesday! They like Sheffield United as they loaned them players (well done, Neil Warnock) when they were in dire financial straits) - indeed, they were grateful for the other local clubs who helped them with players & collections (including us). However, they also remember that the one club who turned their back on them in their hour of need was Wednesday
I’ve always known about the Pitman’s Derby. To be fair it could’ve been said about any fixture involving Us , Millers and Pikeys, but it was always referred to Us. And Millers.
I think we upset a few when we signed Mark Robins. Rotherham had been through the mill in recent seasons, receivership, relegation, Millmoor etc and had started to turn things round when we nicked their manager.
Whenever us donny or rovrum played each other the tabloid press Sun,mirror etc always led with Pitman’s derby
