Let’s talk again when the window closes.. who was our player of the season last season? What was his resale value?
I understand that point if you're buying a player, you may end up losing money on him. But when said player is free, you cannot lose any money, at worst you break even. I don't get it.
I’m sure I read on this forum, we offered him reduced wages and a 1 year deal, but he rejected it? If that’s the case all the people saying sign him are you suggesting we break our wage structure and pay him what he wants and all the issues that will cause?
No, you lose money because you still have to pay him a wage. 10 Years ago it was fine to sign players like Andy Gray and Jon Macken, let them get 10/12 goals a season and keep us in the championship because there was still enough of a profit to keep the club ticking over. Now it wouldn't be enough to keep the club afloat. That's why we only sign young players that we can sell on and that's how the new owners plan on keeping the club running and making a tidy profit year on year. I get that its not to every fans liking but Id rather have a club that operates in this way than one that goes bust.
If its true Scunthorpe are looking at him, I think its fair to say his wage demands are somewhere south of "excessive."
It might be fair to say his wage demands may have altered as time as gone by & clubs who could not afford him two months ago might now be in with a shout of getting him .
Just read Scunthorpe have decided against offering him a deal. Strange decision when the footballing guru’s on this board have stated catergorically several times over recent weeks he’d rip this league apart and walk into any side. Promotion guaranteed apparently.
