I think my favourite part is that Wikipedia doesn't only give league goals, it shows them all it was just the mobile view he used

I'm honestly saying Davies in 2016 was more on his game than for the majority of 2018 - why, would you disagree?

If we’re using arguments like ‘form’ then why ignore the first half of that season? I’d rather than every single player in this side than every single player that played in the first half of that season. 0-11.

I also believe we’ll finish better than 6th this season but that doesn’t mean I think this team is better than the 2016 team.

Maybe the big difference between that team and this is that we now appear to have a proper manager and not a complete charlatan to start the season with.

You mentioned form, not me - I believe Davies was a better 'keeper before Vaughan messed with him too much. Happy for you to believe whatever you want - and if you want to compare the likes of Nyatanga, Wilkinson, Smith, Crowley, Rothwell, Digby, Harris, the guy with the clothing company who played full back and the unfathomable ****** the rest were fed by Johnson until they told him to **** off at half-time at Coventry then that's your prerogative too.

I'll go with one of the best sides I've seen in a Barnsley shirt being better man for man than one that has won two games.

I think a comparison could only be made at seasons end.

I can't see that Hourihane, Mawson, Hammill or Winnall would have much to be worried about, being surpassed by current squad members.
I could see Pinnock & Lindsay getting some serious interest though from big clubs, as well as Dougall. One or two others two could really make names for themselves (still think Potts could be one & Cavare as well). If you looked at our position at Christmas in the promotion year there were not too many "stars" in evidence. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Player for player I would say 2016 were better - Hourihane Mawson, Hammill and winnall were stand out players for that league that would all walk into this side

Two of those would play comfortably in the premier league - one already does.

As a ‘team’ 2016 by the end are streets ahead. It clicked. 2018 hasn’t click yet - but it may do. It hadn’t clicked in August 2015.

Thanks for the personal insult, but I guess if you think because I disagree with you on a perfectly legitimate two-way choice, I'm on spice, that says more about you than me.

And let's be reight this thread was about 2016 players versus current and I would stick by my choice of George Williams 2016 version, cup-winner, play-off winner, scorer of vital goals etc

And Williams played left back, so would be in competition for a place with Pinillos not Cavare.

I think the team which clinched promotion, with their superb form after Christmas 2015, is the best Barnsley side I've had the pleasure of watching since the Wembley Play Off Final of 2000. However, I believe the current team is superior to the one which started the 2015/16 season, with the likes of Lewin Nyatanga, Brad Abbott, Simeon Jackson, Reece Wabara, Joe Rothwell, Ben Pearson, Dan Crowley, Kadeem Harris, Michael Smith & Conor Wilkinson, Thankfully, most of those mentioned were either loans, or on short term contracts. But even with some of our much better players playing, we still saw plenty of pitiful and pathetic performances in the opening months of that campaign.
I don't know how good the present players can become, individually or as a team. Even if their performances don't reach the heights of the 2016 side, that doesn't mean they won't be a good team.

He played in a much better team though surrounded by better players as a individual I think cavare is a better player than Williams hence why Williams is in league 2. Cavare has started the season really well and been one of our better players so far. You also missed isgrove of 2016 out of your comparisons. As for the insult only jesting no offence you are entitled to your opinion.

Say what you will about how good our 2016 were (and they were easily the best in the league), but I didn’t enjoy watching them as much this team and I don’t remember us blowing any teams away like we did last night.

Dunno. Walsall in the playoffs and Millwall in the final to an extent. Wigan away. Rochdale (again!). We were absolutely untouchable in all of those games.

Having said that, the manner of the victories this season really is quite something. Posh and Pompey both squeezed home last night. Obviously I'm sure there will be some matches where we keep it tight and sneak a late winner, but the current start has been pretty spectacular, and augers well for the rest of the season .

Still early days. There's going to be games where it just doesn't happen. The players still have a lot to take on board. However, what a fabulous start. Two four goal thrashings, none conceded. Brilliant. One of the best, most emphatic starts to a season I can ever remember.

Looking at that team shows what a fraud Johnson was. I can't understand how we were losing 8 on the bounce rather than arseholing teams left right and centre for the whole season.

Not saying LJ got the best out of them but it's easy to look back on a team and compare them to how they play now. Players develop with experience and a good few of those were early into their careers or had stepped up a division.
