I don't think we should consider the wages we pay on a player when considering resale value. In essence, our revenue is there to cover the operational aspect of players playing football. If you factor in wages etc and apportion coaching costs, petrol to get them to a ground and god knows what else, very few players would look to be sold "at profit". What makes more sense is transfer value at acquisition to disposal. if we're regularly generating more at the end, we're creating surplus to buy a new player and continue the process. This doesn't take into account the lunatic transfer market and hyperinflation. But I can see the model making sense. Let's turn it around. let's say we're in the championship and Millwall are in our place. We're linked with him, a 26 year old. We're quoted something over £1m. We know he has no pace. We know he is short for a striker. We know he isn't creative ad doesn't link play. We know he doesn't assist much (4 in his first season... not one last season... considering the abuse Hammill has had for this, i'd expect consistency if nothing else from those holding such a view). He can't play as a lone striker. He doesn't beat a man. He's never scored a goal outside the box for us and isn't renowned for having a powerful shot. He's scored around 1 in 4-5 for us in just over 2 years and hasn't always been a regular starter. He's in the last year of his contract, he is rumoured to be keen to move. he may or may not have taken a wage cut after relegation. He is keen to be involved in the wales squad (which he's hardly played for) and feels being in a lower league may impact his chances. His main attribute, he presses defences very well. So, if we're in the market, and this striker is put before us. One, would you sign him? And 2, if so, how much would you honestly spend?
Irregardless of his ability, goals return, value, fee, sell-ons etc etc etc, he is part of a starting XI that are ripping up this division. A cog, however small, that's turning and contributing to the beautiful, well-oiled machine that this side is. For that reason alone, we should not be selling. Let him run his contract down, play his part then get his move. We don't need the money. If he gets the titty-lip on and downs tools, then bin him, but not through choice, please. However small his part in this run of form, it's just working; why start tinkering?
Completely agree, and the only reason I understand we would sell is if we got an offer we can’t refuse (already turned down higher bids than being touted here), or if the player demands a move. Bradshaw has already pushed for a move so my money is that want to move on has escalated as the end of the window approaches. Any player who wants to leave our current squad, at this time, particularly to go to an odious club with a truly odious manager like Harris can go for me. His work rate will be hard to replace. But workrate is an easier quality to find than goals and assists. If we identify a player who Stendel wants or knows who can match Bradshaws workrate then we will be fine. If that player also adds goals and assists then we’ll be more than fine.
Yes gonna be hard to replace him at this stage, but not impossible in my opinion. We will find out be Next Thursday what the plan is I guess. I will be astounded if we go into the season with Moore and VA as our only options.
Good post , exactly a mirror of my thoughts , I find it amusing that some on here are dissing Bradshaw & appear to think they are more knowledgeable than Neil Harris who obviously thinks he is capable of doing a job in the Championship , yet we are playing a level lower but some want to get rid , I just scratch my head .
I think its a case of some players not doing well in certain sides for whatever reason. I don't think Bradshaw is a bad player at all unlike some on here, but sometimes it just doesn't work out at certain clubs. Bradshaw did score loads at Walsall and I was delighted when he signed for us, but for a number of reasons he has not replicated that here at Barnsley. He may well go to Millwall and smash it as Harris may have spotted something in him that he thinks will add a lot to their attack. Take a look at Michael Smith for example. Had a good record for Swindon, came to us and scored 0 and looked awful. Went to Rotherham to replace big Kieffer and was a big player for them in getting them up and even scored their winner the other day vs Ipswich I think.
I don't think anyone has actually said they want rid of him have they? Some just don't think he'll be missed as much as others do.
If you read between the lines , there are plenty who would be happy to see him depart , my big issue with the situation is our current position & the timing of such a deal. Currently we are going great guns & the old saying " if it aint broke dont fix it " comes to mind , we defend as a team from the front & currently it is working a treat with Bradshaw being a key component , I think what many of us would like to have seen would be an extra striker brought in to add support & options , however , if we go down the old route of selling & then trying to bring in a late replacement , we then run the risk of being down to the bare bones & if we are serious about building on a great start, we are running the risk of undoing our good work. I also think that clubs will see that we are now in a desperate position & that will reflect in any deal & we could end up getting fleeced , the whole situation can be avoided .
If you read between the lines you can see what you want to. Better off sticking to what's been said than what hasn't, or the debate just loses credibility.
Strange response from an intelligent poster like yourself , of course you can read between the lines when people are expressing their views , & I have made my points on why I think it would be a bad move to sell him , do you not think the points I make are credible , even if you do not agree with them ?
I don't think it's strange really. There have been some good and credible points made, but no one has said they want rid of Bradshaw. Just to add, I don't mind people reading between the lines in some cases. It's a football forum and that's what we all do to an extent. It's just in this case, if people wanted rid of Bradshaw they would have said so, and they've had plenty of opportunities. One thing about this board, when it comes to people's opinions on players, views are honestly expressed, and not always in the most eloquent of terms. You really don't need to read between any lines in the case of who wants rid of who.
Here are some premiership strikers who we might look at on loan: Rhys Healey/Danny Ward (Cardiff); Isaiah Brown (Chelsea - was on loan at Huddersfield and Rotherham); Ademola Lookman (Everton - dropped down the list now with newcomers); Dominic Solanke/Rhian Brewster (Liverpool). Ones we might try to line as loan to buy from the Championship: Isaac Vassell/Che Adams (Birmingham); Dominic Samuel (Blackburn); Jack Marriott (Derby County - ok, he's only just moved, but was always my perfect replacement for Bradshaw); Joe Lolley (Forest); Conor Washington (QPR - part of any deal for Lindsay - hope not, though); Marc McNulty (Reading - another one who is just warming the bench); Lucas Joao (Wednesday). I am disappointed at the thought of Bradshaw and possibly Lindsay going at this stage, especially after such a great start. Bradshaw may be replaceable and I can understand the business deal involvement with his contract being up next year. We should be asking more than £4 million for QPR and why would he want to go there and end up being sidelined by whoever replaces McLaren and then playing in League One next season again, while we are back in the Championship. When will we hear the wonderful words, '???? has signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until ???? We cannot turn Stendel into the next Heckingbottom either. Come on, board! Have some guts!
I don't want him to leave and think it's a silly decison to allow him to leave at this stage. I also don't rate him as a championship player at all just see him as a decent league one player. We can replace him, the problem is the time frame we have given ourselves now. Now what do you read between those lines?
I think we would be a good place for loanees to come to at the moment. Having loads of the ball and creating plenty of chances, we are an ideal club for a premier league or championship striker to come and dip his bread.
