Has anyone had their vehicle done? Pros and cons? I'm thinking of getting my van done, as I do quite a bit of motorway miles to my jobs and I think it would benefit me in terms of the extra power and miles per gallon.
The most obvious observation would be is your van out of warranty? If not then any remapping not done as a result of manufacturer updates would invalidate your warranty.
Mapped performance tuning at Shafton is very good if you decide to go ahead with it. Specialises in VAG products but im sure would do most.
Its a much of a muchness really. If you increase the BHP of any engine all the map is telling your ECU to do is jet more fuel and pull in more air, bigger bang, more power. So you will get places slightly quicker but use more fuel doing so. I have had a couple of maps on various cars and I have to say, unless your planning on upgrading different hardware on the vehicle I.E uprated fuel pump, jets, sparks, rad, intercooler, turbo, exhaust, exhaust manifold I would say save your money as the gains in power whilst noticeable, are not enough to warrant the cost in my opinion but obviously the cost of the upgrades mentioned above far exceed 5/6 K. A standard stage 1 map in real terms will give you 25/30 bhp on a turbo diesel, 15/20 on a non turbo diesel, 10/20 on a turbo petrol and 5/15 on a N/A petrol depending on the initial set up. Rhe torque increases are good on anything turbocharged but again, to get an increase "worth" getting, you would ideally be wanting to upgrade some if not all the things mentioned above. By all means do it, you have 14 days grace as with any product. See if you like it, then fair enough. If not, get it removed. You will find your fuel consumption decreases as opposed to it increasing though.
Cheers for that. Vans a bluemotion so I get really good consumption anyway. I've done a fair bit of research, but wanted to hear it from the horses mouth, so to speak. Company I've contacted are telling me I can get an extra 40bhp. To be honest I'm not desperate to have it done as the van is lively enough for a 1.6 td.
Darkside at Grimethorpe do it I've had one of these from DTUK, it takes about 10 mins to fit and u can remove it if you need to. Had it on an Audi A5 https://www.diesel-performance.co.uk
Yeah they're where I was going to go, but I've decided to leave it as is. I'm going to be kinky for some bespoke racking instead. Suits you sir!!
That’s not necessarily true. Most remapping will give you more power but also better fuel economy. My mate Mark Wilkinson from M-Tec in Wombwell, is one of the countries leading ECU and mapping experts. Quote a few of the ‘remapping centres’ around Barnsley send their stuff to him and charge you a premium. Go directly to the source and you’ll get it cheaper.
Yeah I was led to believe that remapping is only derestricting our engines and optimising them to do what they were built for?
Caddy or T5 mate? I've just stage 2'd my caddy maxi. I went to Carlton tuning for both and then had the DPF deleted. Takes about half hour or abit longer if the software needs updating but it's definately worth doing. I went from 102bhp to 150bhp, then in got a stage 2 done and it's at 185bhp. I had my Golf R done by darkside, that's now a very healthy 390bhp! It's also possible to receive more power and better fuel efficiency, after the first remap on my caddy it actually ended about 12mpg better off and even better than that on the motorways. Carlton tuning are good and are very good value but darkside are one of the best in the country, people go there from all over the UK but you would pay a massive premium.
Use shell v power has added nitrogen.costs a little more but used it for 2 years. My other half has a diesel astra.got it a month ago 450 miles on a tank full now does 625 and picks up a lot quicker adds an extra 200 cc + in power.
Caddy 102bhp. I'm amazed how lively it is as it is though for a 1.6. My last van was a Berlingo 2.0hdi and this seems feels pretty much the same.
