    Not a real ale fan but always wanted to try an Osset ale, dunno why though. Do they do owt over 7.3% :)

    Once went to their pub at the bottom of Healey Road in Ossett with my eldest son.
    Ordered the strongest ale on sale. My son said " you need to be careful with that
    Dad." I chose to ignore his advice. After my third pint, I got up to go to the bog and
    I swear I felt pis*ed from the ankles up and was leaning backwards at an angle of
    45 degrees. My lad and his mates were splitting their sides laughing. It was seriously
    strong stuff I can tell you. Only other ale I have ever had stronger than that, was in a bar in Nottingham.
    From memory, I think it was it called Brew 8. I supped a few to the point at the end of the session I had to leave
    my car overnight and get a taxi back to Wakefield.

    That's one of the places we used to go for our lunch and a pre match pint. Talbot and falcon being another in wakey.

    Proper atmospheric real ale pub with roaring fire the Boons end. Enjoyed my visits, but was always a bit miffed that I couldn't have a proper wet because I was driving.

    They do a lovely pale called excelsior. Similar to Timmy Taylors landlord if you've tried that.

    Dunno what strength it is but it's a nice drop.

    That's the baby. It's only 5.2 but jeez it was really potent. Don't know why it affected me like it did
    Cos I could sup. It was a dinner time session and I'd not had anything substantial to eat, so that
    could have been the main reason. After my third Excelsior I switched to the Yorkshire Blonde and I seemed to feel a bit better, but the Excelsior is like rocket fuel on an empty belly.

    Not keen on their ale TBH. I funnily enough played a party for the wife of the owner, the day we played Swansea in the playoff final. Watched the game on TV somewhere nearby..

    Looking at the brews they have available " BIG RED" could be the perfect fit

    we once went into wakey one Sunday afternoon and stayed in a pub just up from the Ings road roundabout, can't remember the name.

    We all had a steady gallon with live music and sandwiches to soak it up, and as much as we were all a bit worse for wear, we weren't really too bad and no hangover to follow.

    I see 3 of the 4 they do are pale ales, which are my favourites anyway. Do you prefer the darker brews?

    Daftest beer I ever bought was a Porter. Nowt wrong with a dark ale of course, but we had just been to the Karachi and four of us had a nose bag on for less that £20 quid - all in! We were stuffed.

    Anyway, fast forward an hour and we were in one of boozers at bottom of Westgate, and there's me ordering this pint of liquid coal.

    I had a sip and then staring at it for about half an hour. It was like a meal in itself. I can't remember whether I actually drank or left it.

    *chuckling* some porters, though nice, are a swine to get down if you've had food. Though there are some really nice ones now which are lighter, dunno if Anspach & Hobday have made it up north, they have a taproom in their Bermondsey brewing place and they did a great porter but they are really experimental and not seen it since to remind me what it was.

    The best porter hands down though.... Titanic, Plum Porter. So easy drinking and deliciously rich fruity hit but very light for a porter. I dare you to try a smoked coffee porter. I once struggled with a half!

    No, they just don't have the flavour. I like a hoppy beer. American or Belgian hops. Just really run of the mill, when you have loads of great breweries around. Some folks like bland beer though.
